Tutor and Educator – Unique Minds Ltd., West Vancouver January 2018 – March 2018 Unique Minds Ltd. is a company which provides support for students with various learning disabilities, as well as those who are behind in their academics due to other circumstances, mainly sports. I am teaching English (reading and writing), Math, and Social Studies to
(private schools) students from grade 1 through grade 7 in (mostly) one-on-one sessions. English Instructor – Focus Learning Centre, Canada January 2018 I worked as a part-time English Instructor in Focus Learning Centre, Richmond, BC and taught students grade 3-7 whose mother tongue is Mandarin and who would like to strengthen their English for academic purposes. I taught in a class setting with 11-17 students.
Volunteer – YWCA Metro Vancouver, Canada October – December 2017 I volunteered with YWCA Metro Vancouver which provides (non-academic) after school programs for seven graders with the purpose to prepare them for high school. After school programs are administered by a group of volunteers and a YWCA Program Coordinator in designated public schools in Metro Vancouver. My work includes delivering curriculum, leading and facilitating discussions and other activities. Volunteer – Self Design, Vancouver, Canada January – March 2017 Self Design is an organization which provides academic and non-academic supports for homeschoolers, in-line with British Columbia (BC) curriculum. I volunteered in designing and administering one program in paper engineering for learners aged 11-13 years old. This particular program ran for 13 weeks.
Principal – Kiddie Land Montessori, Indonesia 2012 – 2015 As the school Principal, I was responsible for managing the policies, regulations, and procedures. I supervised 27 teachers, 9 support personnel, and about 150 students (aged 2-6 years old). My duties and responsibilities include:
Designing, adjusting and monitoring the implementation of curriculum, based on the Montessori approach and the school’s policies.
Hiring teachers and staff, supervising their attendance and work, offering help when needed.
Providing regular workshop, training or out-of-school seminar for teachers and staff.
Maintaining good communication and relationship with parents, other schools in the area, school owners and government officials.
Ensuring that area in and around school is safe, clean, tidy and suitable for learning.
Providing help and assistance to marketing and administrative staff. Montessori Teacher – Kiddie Land Montessori, Semarang, Indonesia 2007 – 2012 As a K2 class (for 3-4 year olds) teacher, I was responsible to:
Keep track of individual student’s progress on daily basis.
Set up classroom including its Montessori apparatus every morning and make sure it is a learning-ready environment for students.
Together with other K2 teachers, design weekly lesson plans and 3-monthly school themes to be consulted with the Principal.
Research Assistant to Dr. Syuan-yuan Chiou – Indonesia 2006 – 2011 While studying in Satya Wacana University as an undergraduate student, I was a research assistant to Dr. Syuan-yuan Chiou, a current assistant professor at National Cheng-chi University, Taiwan. I was responsible (but not limited) to:
Assist the researcher during interviews
Conduct interviews whenever the researcher himself was not able to do so
Transcribe interviews, and translate the transcription to English
Review some literature (books and articles)
