I have recently been assigned to manage the Simmerpan Complex in Germiston as a Facilities Manager, since 1 April 2018, which encompasses the Nation Control Building and related sites and amenities.

In the 2017/2018 financial year, I served as a Facilities Project Manager, with a focus on project implementation. I am responsible for the management, direction, planning, control and implementation of the National Minor Capex Plan. My responsibilities include prioritising projects as per customer requirements, budget allocations, forecasts and cost management of those projects, progress reporting to senior management on the Capex Plan. I ensure compliance to Finance, Procument, Contract Management, Investment Committee and other processes for the projects.

My initial role at Eskom was that of a Facilities Manager in the real estate division, since February 2012. I was responsible for the maintenance of the Gauteng South region, which comprises of Ekurhuleni, Vaal, Central Johannesburg and Soweto. I was also Facilities Manager for the North West region from June 2013 to January 2016. Since August of 2012, I have been working in both these positions.

On a daily basis, we provided maintenance to all commercial buildings. My duties included ensuring that the individual maintenance officers and clerk of works that report to them attend to the planned and unplanned maintenance as per the building needs of the company.

Our planned maintenance scope includes internal and external building renovations, maintaining electrical, plumbing and HVAC system as per the National Building regulations. I also ensured that the new buildings that are required by the Operating Units are planned and built as per request. On a monthly basis I visited sites to check that the building systems are functional.My responsibility also included contract management, ensuring that contracts are in place and managed as per Eskom policies and procedures.

My previous employer was Cross Fire Management, from the periods of June 2009 to January 2012. In this position, I was responsible for the project life cycle from inception to completion. As a project manager, my mandate was to successfully manage designated projects within the specified time frame, cost and resources. Amongst other duties, financial, technical and client relation management were required.

Prior to that, I was employed at Group Five Building from January 2005 to May 2009. My first project was Jabulani Mall in Soweto, where I worked as a safety officer. I also worked at the Nishtara Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation centre in Lenasia, and completed thefinal handovers of three other projects, namely the Vehicle Recovery Unit in Lenasia, Sontonga Mall in Katlehong as well as Palm Springs Shopping Centre. I was then placed at Woodmead Retail Park, my next project was N17 Link Road Project in the Nasrec area, South of Johannesburg.
