Freeport Police Department; Freeport, TX October 2017~Present Crime Victim’s Liaison

After serving the Freeport Police Department for more that five years in the capacity of Administrative Assistant, I learned about the Crime Victim’s Liaison grant funding available to the state of Texas and about what exactly a Crime Victim’s Liaison does. I researched this position, and after much thought, decided to apply for the VOCA grant for the City of Freeport. This grant was funded for one year, and I have recently re-written this grant. I have been successful in this position since its recent introduction by collaborating with other crime victim’s advocates and learning as much as possible. I also strive to assist any innocent victim of violent crime as much as I can within the bounds of Texas law. I created and implemented a different form of ‘blue card’ that provides victim’s with essentially all rights, options, and necessary steps and phone numbers. This project went over well in the Freeport Police Department and has served as a knowledge base for both victims and officers. 2

This job requires a proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It also requires the ability to multi task and be self-sufficient and self-motivated. At the same time, I was required to answer public concerns in person or by phone. I also had to do paperwork when inmates were brought in or released. During the course of all this, I was required to dispatch fire and rescue personnel when appropriate, sometimes including life flight. At many times, these tasks were done simultaneously. After accepting a promotion within the Freeport Police Department, I continued to sit in dispatch when possible as well as provide coverage as needed. I also made a conscious effort to continue taking classes and learning as much as possible.
