I am a manufacturing engineer with over 25 years of extensive experience working in manufacturing environments. I am especially experienced in Fiberglass and Carbon fiber reinforced composite parts and assemblies as well as aluminum to aluminum honeycomb bonded panels and sheet metal manufacturing and assembly in the aerospace and defense industries. Responsibility is to analyze, design and/or improve manufacturing and/or office processes. Define and measure appropriate criteria for new equipment, processes and product introductions as well as recognizing opportunities created by new, evolving technologies. Lead and/or assist in design/automation improvements to existing machines & processes, and clean sheet design of new machines and/or processes. Identify root cause and implement process corrective action to prevent recurrence. Lead the introduction of Dye Sublimation work cell. Defined the work cell layout, equipment and processes needed to meet production rate required and created detailed visual work instructions to maintain the required rate. Trained employees on the process and conducted initial time studies to set standard rate for production verifying design rate capabilities. Installed and implemented work cell ahead of schedule and under budget.

Lead the PackSize ® on demand boxing project to replace purchased boxes. Reduce floor and rack space for storage, reduced inventory quantities and carrying cost and reduce the number of different boxes carried on stock.

Manager Manufacturing Engineering, OEM Customers. July 14, 2014 to July 2017.

Responsible for managing new program launches and major capital projects for all new OEM partners such as Boeing, Bell Helicopter, Lockheed Martin and others. Participated in meetings such as Quality Management Reviews, Corrective Action Board meetings, Contract Review meetings and others as required. I provided technical expertise of composite part manufacturing processes, design and development of manufacturing systems, and equipment as required. I work with other departments to determine capital equipment appropriations required for new process implementation while controlling expenditures to ensure compliance with timing and budget requirements. Responsible for creating all OEM partner quotes to meet OEM RFQ requirements.

Developed “Manufacturing Work Instruction” process needed to acquire NADCAP certifications and answer AS9100 requirements. This was completed in 6 months. This allowed HCOA to acquired NADCAP certifications in Heat Treat, Metal Processing, NDI and Composite Manufacturing within 8 months in 2014.

Lead in developing a “Technology Road Map” defining the equipment, processes, personnel and training required to move HCOA from a small niche market for the DLA to a fully capable composites and metal bonding manufacturer. Created a list of equipment needed for composite manufacturing which included: kit cutting, laser projection, NDI C-Scan, 5 axis routers, 10’ x 30’ autoclave and upgrade our Controlled Contamination Area clean room to a Class 100,000 clean room with additional floor area. Total of the equipment package is $4,800,000.

Lead in acquiring Bell Helicopter Qualification to BPSs 4458 (metal Bond), 4437, 4511, 4512 & 4518 for composite manufacture, BPS 4352 Phosphoric Acid Anodize processes and BPS 4339 for Heat Treatment requirements. This lead to the first award of a multi-year multi part contract from Bell helicopter worth over $1.5 million in the first year.

Prepared quotation for Bell Helicopter multiyear contract for 168 shipsets of 36 different part for the Cobra Attack Helicopter. Total value of the quote was over $21 million dollars. Quote was very competitive we were down selected and still awaiting award of contract.

Sr. Manufacturing Engineering Aviation/Defense Air Filtration Systems: September 5, 2010 to July 5, 2014.

Responsible for defining the methods of producing products, components and assemblies. Identify and develop all production, assembly & test processes and procedures. Responsibilities include insurance that products are produced in most economical, proficient manner while adhering to all quality characteristics and considerations. Produce routings, BOMs, fixtures, tooling, procedures, processes, etc. and ensure they are in place for manufacturing. Provide tooling/fixtures concepts and designs and decipher whether tooling is to be built in-house or sub-contracted out. Ensuring cost effective and on time procurement and delivery of equipment, tooling and fixtures. Provide leadership on the MRB board and provide analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action for all non-conforming products.

Provided 15% reduction in labor for the assembly of the CH47 Engine Inlet Filter program. Reduced stock outages by 70% for the CH47 Engine Filter program through the implementation of “Bus Stops” for constraining work centers, Kitting detail parts and providing “Point of Use” inventory.

I was the Principle Manufacturing Engineer for the start up of the Israeli Merkava Tank Engine Filter program and I provided all Mfg. Engineering hardware e.g. routers, BOMs, tooling, fixtures and acceptance testing requirements while maintaining 100% on time schedule under extremely tight timeline conditions. Reduce labor requirements by 20% though improved process sequencing and redesigned tooling.

Support the manufacturing engineering group to meet the requirements for various programs. Ensure successful launch of new production parts, components, assemblies and sub-assemblies to meet program and business objectives. Plan projects and support programs with schedules and milestones of manufacturing engineering department services. Plan the test and trails of manufacturing methods and processes. Prepare routings, work instructions, BOM’s, and various manufacturing engineering documentation to facilitate program activities. Plan for all tools and fixtures, including development of concepts and approval of final tool and fixture designs and all make / buy decisions.

Successfully completed manufacturing engineering requirements; e.g. BOMs, MRSs, Tooling requirements etc. for the initial production unit of Sikorsky OSA helicopter Interior Panels.

Completed initial production plans for Boeing specification BAC 5317 in order to start production of new contact awarded for 747-8 Engine Pylon Fairings. Completed the tool requirements plan and sent to purchasing for quotes and release of purchase orders.

Lead the manufacturing portion of the qualification plans for Lockheed Martin F35 Joint Strike Fighter components.

Sr. Manufacturing Engineer on Contract with Hawker Beech Craft Co. Wichita Kansas.

Analyze current processes, manage large projects and validate build processes to type design. Provide technical guidance to PMO, Engineering, Quality, Tooling and Operations to assure a successful transition of major aircraft assemblies to third party manufacturers. Interface daily with required personnel in the performance of duties to ensure schedule compliance and challenge projects success. Sr. Manufacturing Engineer (2/2004 to 09/15/2009) – 60% time spent on floor.

Responsible for various product lines built for various customers including Boeing, Bell Helicopter, Sikorsky Helicopter, Augusta Westland, Cessna and Hawker Beech craft. Interact with purchasing, production, engineering, operations and most importantly, our customers for the manufacture of high tech component parts and structures for the commercial aircraft and defense sectors. Create and maintain manufacturing routings and Bills of Materials and review parts lists, drawings, specifications and other data to determine manufacturing requirements including material, labor, and tooling.

Worked with SAC, (Shenyang Aircraft Co. China), and Boeing Seattle representatives in the start-up of the composite 787 Vertical Tail Section program. Eliminated numerous manufacturability problems bringing initial production to the shop floor.

Worked with Sikorsky Aircraft engineers in the startup of the Tail Rotor Pylon (TRP) program which was a 90% graphite composite helicopter tail section. Solved some major manufacturing problems for the initial production of four “Tear Down” parts required for contract award.

Worked with Augusta Westland, (UK), representatives on the US101 Air Stair Door and Type III Escape Hatch program (Presidential Helicopter program). I was responsible for eliminating numerous problems that improved the manufacturing processes that eliminated 50% labor and 20% material usage on the program and ultimately moved a stuck program into full production.

Manufacturing Engineer (3/97 to 2/2004)

Primary manufacturing engineer / planner on over 750 aircraft parts built for customers such as Cessna, Sikorsky Helicopter, Bell Helicopter and Boeing aircraft. Parts such as helicopter blades, floorboards, glare-shields and trim tabs utilizing materials such as fiberglass, graphite, phenolic, lexan, lytex, and processes including hand lay-up, compression molding and vacuum form and fiber placement etc. Created all routings, BOMs, Tooling requirements etc.

Project Engineer for the selection and installation of numerous pieces of plant equipment including a computer-controlled Video-Jet part marking equipment, Gerber pre-preg cutting table, 5 axis machining centers, laser projection system, Catia V5 and Fibersim composite design software as well as Faro Arm and Laser tracking inspection equipment.
