Maintain and operate all fire suppression systems to include wet, dry, deluge, pre-action and special hazard systems such as CO2 and FM200. Responsibilities include inspection and testing systems to ensure code compliance and functionality.

Responsible for overseeing and instructing the Nissan Fire Brigade which involves selecting highly skilled security officers that are trained via coursework and in-field, instructing how to properly use firefighting equipment (PPE), and extinguishing live burns.

Provide fire safety to all Nissan personnel, contractors and visitors for the 7.6 million square foot facility.

Creating the Whelan Fire Water Response Team along with writing the process and procedures. This training was also administered to Nissan and onsite contractors.

Respond to emergency situations as required or administer medical attention until AMR/Pafford

arrives on the scene.

Force entry of premises for firefighting, rescue and salvage operations using chemical fire extinguishers, bar hooks, lines and other equipment.

Documents significant events, writes security reports and conduct investigations as required.

Conduct orientation for new employees and provide a training class pertaining to fire protection and safety.

Working with and assisting the Facilities Fire Protection/Risk Assessment Engineer on all new additions or modifications to the facility and onsite suppliers.

Responsible for advising, signing and commissioning all fire related equipment during construction and modifications. This involves planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating work with contractor and Nissan Facilities Engineering department.

Responsible for monitoring all fire suppression systems, alarms and alarming devices as well as ensuring they are functioning properly and within code compliance.

Responsible for verifying the all new fire systems are commission and the final documentation are signed off when the system are in service.

Overseeing preventative maintenance of fire protection equipment to include post indicator valves, fire extinguishers, fire hoses and automatic sprinklers.

Handling all large Hazmat spills by making sure the cleanup support executes properly.

Monitoring, investigating, and reporting all alarms.

Escort and liaison for hands-on fire protection reporting to Sompo Japan Nipponoa, Nissan’s insurance provider. Working to get any primary recommendation off the insurance reports before the next audits that could negatively impact on the Nissan’s insurance premiums.

Direct liaison between Whelan Fire and Nissan Facilities Engineering Department to ensure that the sergeants and lieutenants follow proper procedures for all fire protection related events and maintenance checks.
