pharmacy tech (This is a federal job)
Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
I am a pharmacy tech. I fill prescriptions that doctor's have ordered for patients. I am able to look up patient information to see if prescriptions have been mailed and track there locations. My job entails a lot of computer work and working between multiple screens. I have to check outdated medications and mark medications that we are low on. I have to maintain our computer that fills 200 of our most popular medications. I have to make sure the drug vials are full so the computer can run properly. Working the front window, face to face interaction with the Veteran's. Taking their orders for medication. I do phone orders and process orders over the phone.
I am the backup timekeeper for a staff of 10 in the pharmacy.
I have been with the VA 17 years this FEB therefore I have used many different computer programs. Confidentiality being the first priority.
Education:
Currently attending Bay State College and will be finishing my degree in May of 2018. I have taken extra courses with another study program to further my knowledge and completed extra courses in Forensics and Profiling. I feel compelled to keep learning as much as I can to help me with the changing forces we are seeing everyday in the public affairs.

Due to my knowledge and use of supply items when working in nursing service I currently handle the ordering of supply items for the Veteran's. I have my own account for the supply website and this is a job I take great pride and have much enjoyment in doing.
I worked in psychiatry for many years within the VA system and it was here that I learned to conduct small searches of rooms looking for contraband of any type. I also interviewed patients when we admitted someone. If there was an incident I would have to interview the patient to gather facts and information of the event that took place and write reports when I was finished. Teamwork was a big part of working in this field. That is a very important aspect of a good work environment when there are many people.

Additional Information:
In my yearly evaluations my supervisor recognizes my duties as a supply tech within the pharmacy. Other techs know they can come to me and I do my best to find the product for the Veteran. I try my hardest to make sure the Veteran gets exactly what they want and will work with them until we get it right. I work with the doctor's via email and try to guide them in helping them to order the correct product for pt's. If script's run out I email doctor's asking if they can put in a new one so I can fill the Independence Medical order. I have pt's that do ask for me. We have very good communication and it's about working as a team to get items correct and ordered in a timely manner.
In ’94 I started working for the Dept of Mental Retardation. I worked there for 5 years and enjoyed this job. I helped mentally challenged adults with ADL’s, getting to and from appts, day trips and dropping them off at their day programs. Part of my duties was keeping daily notes of the residents day. Transcribing medication and documenting and things that the next shift or the house manager should know about. Maybe a certain behavior that was displayed, refusal of meds, poor appetite or just not seeming themselves.
