Work Experience

Founder and Chief Science Officer

SoundHealth, LLC/Discovery and Translational Science Research Institute - Boca Raton, FL 2009 to 2016

SoundHealth, LLC was organized in late 2010, to develop technologies and devices that utilize sound and/or acoustic energy to facilitate alteration and/or change in human medical conditions, behavioral modification, sensory processing, and the remediation in pervasive developmental disorders. A unique methodology was created to expedite the delivery of medical innovations into the marketplace. Through its affiliation with the Discovery and Translational Science Research Institute, Inc., a non-profit entity with an extensive network of research & development institutions, around the globe, SoundHealth was able to effectually offer selected discoveries with the resources necessary to successfully commercialize them.

The catalyst was a personal quest for a male contraceptive method, and the discovery of the specific sound frequencies, which can affect and/or manage the motility of human sperm. The objective of this private, self/investor-funded enterprise was to provide a safe, reliable, non-surgical, non-chemical, non-hormonal and reversible male reproductive management technique as a viable alternative to a surgical vasectomy. So, along with a partner, an efficacious system was developed utilizing sound waves, acoustic energy and heat to affect the motility of human sperm, enabling: a) the creation of a safe, temporary state of male sterility, for contraception and/or, b) a near immediate state of hypermotility, for fertility enhancement. Subsequent to the undertaking a successful pre-clinical, Proof of Concept pilot study, work on finalizing the design, components, and configuration for user "device"; affiliating with Univ. of Wisconsin for further research & development through their Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, Office of Therapeutics Discovery & Development.

Owner/Principal

Neuro Acoustic Research/Cognitive Ambient Technologies LLC, Delray Beach, Florida

2004 to 2009

As the architect of this independent, private practice, and $2+M grant funded enterprise, the purpose of which was the furtherance of physio and psycho-acoustic methods/therapies in/for the treatment of: behavioral modification (e.g. anxiety, depression); pervasive development disorders (e.g. Autism, ADHD); health conditions (e.g. sleep deprivation, eating disorders); relapse prevention (e.g. drug and alcohol addiction) .this last undertaking brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including the Florida State Drug Court system; 8 private and/or public rehabilitation facilities; Nova University's Pain Clinic, and seventeen hundred (1700) volunteer subjects - all participating in a first-of-its-kind, IRB sanctioned research study, using the real-world laboratory environment of Palm Beach County. The technology and mechanism were tested and evaluated the hypothesis and theory statistically validated - the results proved to be outstanding, and saleable. Subsequent to the acquisition, a more efficient and cost-effective delivery system was incorporated, at the request of the acquiring firm. The private practice was sustained through 2014.

Director of Training and Special Government Initiatives

Maritime Protective Services, Inc. (MPS) /ATLAS Technologies, LLC, Deerfield Beach, Florida

2000 to 2004

Engaged to develop a series of comprehensive, internationally approved, training courses, based on the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), for this $8M firm. The courses were certified as compliant with the standards and regulation promulgated by the United States Coast Guard; the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD); the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA); and Det Norske Veritas (DNV, ) a leading international classification society. Additionally, Continuing Education Unit (CEU) certification, for the courses, was secured from Florida Institute of Technology, making the MPS the first and only private training organization, in the United States, to offer college credit to course attendees. The courses have been taught in over 14 countries; with graduates numbering in the thousands, they continue to be taught, both here in the United States and in the United Kingdom.

VP Operations and General Manager

Marion Amphitheater, LLC/Carolina Entertainment Complex, Marion South Carolina

1998 to 2000

Responding to an appeal for help, from a friend I entered a 2-year engagement to design and implement a complete enterprise-type operational model for a $12M, remote, open-air, entertainment venue located in Marion, South Carolina. Working on site, significant contribution to this project was to employ a Future Strategies Business Planning (FSBP) methodology. During the engagement, I created, established and/or produced: Event, Facility, Employee and Operations directives, guides and manuals, for the venture, at the 6-year old facility. The strategy included developing comprehensive, industry-specific, research-based business processes, along with high-level definitions of type, kind, and form of events; ticket, concession, parking and merchandise pricing; catering, production and production services; market demographic analysis; marketing, advertising, public relations; and more.

Interrupting the life cycle of sperm (#US20160324682 A1)

https://www.google.com/patents/US20160324682?cl=en

2016

A method of interrupting the life cycle of sperm that includes subjecting a user to a first and a second treatment session in a male birth-control cycle. The first treatment session including a mature-sperm inhibition step of emitting, through at least one transducer, an amount energy for a predetermined period of time that is directed to the entire male reproductive system including but not limited to at least one of an epididymal tubules and an ejaculation ducts of the user, via a constant coupling configuration of the transducer with the user, to render a plurality of sperm transported therein to be immotile. The second treatment session includes subjecting the user to the mature-sperm inhibition step before a sperm-maturation time whereby sperm carried by the user are in a mature state.

MALE CONTRACEPTION: Prospects for Sound and Ultrasound

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306987717301044 September 2017

The worldwide human population growth rate, which doubled during the 20th century, as well as the increasing fertility rate, have contributed to an increasing and evolving emphasis on contraception. With respect to female contraceptive methods, many have been developed, marketed, and are widely available. In contrast, male contraception has been limited to condoms, which pose logistical challenges, and vasectomy, which is largely irreversible.

The use of sound to achieve effective and safe male contraception is a promising but unproven hypothesis. Based on the existing and incomplete totality of evidence, we hypothesize that the combination of sound with a modified ultrasonic technique in a single system will provide a practical delivery method that merges all of the appropriate and prescribed frequencies to have spermicidal qualities that may result in effective and safe male contraception. It is also plausible that any experimental male contraceptive method that heats the testicles where they can no longer produce sperm offers the possibility of a favorable benefit to risk ratio. The single system combining sound with a modified ultrasonic technique includes an acoustically suitable pad to assure proper transmission and delivery without concern for injury from the ultrasound frequencies, an amplification and regulation module, a frequency source generator, the complementary heat created along with external and targeted directionality, and various transport methods, such as wired, wireless, or remote. This methodology also offers the ability to move quickly to prototype, achieve multiple patent crossovers, secure and employ commercially available technologies, and provide the opportunity for rapid regulatory approval worldwide.

These concepts have been explored in basic research in many animal species as well as humans. To achieve an adequate totality of evidence, the test of this hypothesis requires further basic research in humans to clarify the relevant mechanisms, clinical and observational epidemiologic studies to further explore the hypothesis, and large-scale randomized trials to detect the most plausible magnitude of benefits of this promising but unproven technology. It is plausible that this technology will represent a major breakthrough to combat world population growth. It is also plausible, that, to paraphrase Thomas Huxley, this beautiful hypothesis will be slain by ugly facts.
