Conducted HPLC quantitation of fermentation products. Notable Contributions to Amgen technology:

Use of automated time feeding protocols to produce high density cultures of microorganisms

Implementation of cheaper, food-grade raw material, including food-grade glucose and food-grade yeast extract in place of higher priced reagent grades Use of Statistical Process Optimization Techniques to optimize yield of a novel product fermentation

Implementation of HPLC as fermentation product quantitation method to replace less reproducible SDS-PAGE analysis used previously. Use of Statistical Process Control methods to increase confidence in HPLC quantitative results

Introduction, development and improvement of Pichia pastoris technology to fermentation lab

Replacement of SDS-PAGe quantitation of product concentration with more reproducible HPLC quantitation.
