Manager Axle Programs

July 2013 to Sept 2014

Ausco Products, Benton Harbor, Mi

Managed a new axle program for underground mining applications where I was responsible for the design, manufacturing, assembly, cost, quality, testing, and assembly processes. As we were about to authorize tooling for the first prototype axles, the Ausco management team determined that the axles were too expensive and would not sell in the marketplace. As a result, I was laid off.

Design and release engineer on several axle models including the global RDU (Rear Drive Unit) scheduled for 8 vehicle platforms worldwide. The RDU was launched in late 2012 incorporating a new assembly process for setting pinion bearing preload. I was responsible for developing this unique system and incorporating it into the assembly line.

The plant continued operating as one of Dana’s most productive manufacturing facilities, and in June 2002 this facility won “IndustryWeek” magazine’s “Top Ten Best Plants” competition.

Executive trainee, holding a variety of increasingly responsible positions (Supervisor, Scheduler, Process engineer, etc.) within the Ft. Wayne Axle plant in preparation for an executive career within the company. As Maintenance Area Manager, I was responsible for maintaining 2500 assets, utilizing predictive and preventative maintenance techniques and managing 350 skilled trades and plant support personnel. In September 1996, I accepted the area manager of gears position where I managed approximately 400 employees producing hypoid gear sets, side gears, pinion mates, and differential pins for driving axles. During this time we implemented a new dry cutting process of hypoid gear sets and developed a process to produce low motion transmission error (quiet) gear sets. I was responsible for the procurement of raw materials, scheduling, and process engineering in a unionized setting.

Sales Account Manager

June 1988 to September 1992

Dana Corporation, Sales Division, Bingham Farms, MI

Responsible for all aspects of sales for axle related products to General Motors, AM General, and Nissan. Developed a working relationship with Nissan, on Spicer Axle’s first active program with a Japanese auto manufacturer.
