Research Projects
Oxidative Coupling of Methane Fall 2015 to Present
•Evaluated a patented process by Siluria Technologies for the oxidative coupling of methane to selectively make ethylene
•Simulated methods for product separation and purification of polymer-grade ethylene
•Quantified the economic and environmental impacts of the potential facility’s operations
Metal Ion-Exchange Capacities in Nafion® 117 Membranes Summer 2015
Rutgers University REU Intern (Competitive NSF Program)
•Researched the transport properties of metal ions in Nafion®117 membranes for synthesizing metal oxide nanoparticles for the catalytic
•Complexometric titrations were conducted to determine the efficiency of magnesium, nickel, and zinc cation uptake by Nafion®117 in the corresponding metal nitrate solutions. Learned analytical techniques to generate particle size distributions, validate the uptake of ions and synthesis of nanoparticles, and determine the scale of particle aggregation
Benzyl Guanidine Synthesis January 2014 to May 2014
•Synthesized and purified benzyl guanidine from benzylamine, S-methylisothioronium, and potassium carbonate for preliminary HIV drug development
•Optimized reaction scheme to maximize yield
•Developed an efficient method for separating excess reactants from products
