Mechanical Construction Manager/Mechanical Superintendent: In this role Robert is responsible for work construction management between the mechanical contractor and other trade contractors. Main functions are to ensure the contractor is executing construction in accordance with drawings and specifications, provide design input to issue for construction documents (IFC) i.e. Constructability, value engineering, identification of critical information required to be able to construct the facilities/systems and respond to contractor requests for information (RFI’s). The construction manager is also responsible for ensuring his contractors meet project quality and schedule objectives. As Mechanical Construction Manager in charge of foreman and craft people for many construction projects of pharmaceuticals,chemical plants and petrochemical industries.

–More than 20 years progressive experience in the engineering, construction, planning, organization, and direction of piping design projects relating to new construction and/or renovation of facilities.

–Piping and engineering design for projects ranging from bulk/finishing pharmaceutical/Biotech plants to petrochemical plants. He has also been responsible for equipment layouts, fabrication isometrics with bill of materials, material take-offs and cost estimates. This experience helps provide effective reviews of issue for construction documents.

–Extensive field experience during construction and start-up phases requiring overall coordination.

–Directed contractor personnel and engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various project phases, including coordination with major trade contractors.

–Inspected work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and that schedules and budgetary guidelines are followed.

Mechanical lead during the execution of the Pilot Plant project design. Was later transferred to the site as mechanical construction coordinator to verify installations, answer RFI’s, procure piping components/equipment and coordinated among sub-contractors for the installation of utility and process systems.

Piping Lead during a fast-track project, completed within allotted design and construction schedule, and within budget. Developed general arrangements, elevations, associated sections for modification and upgrades to existing pharmaceutical bulk production facility.

AMGEN - Juncos, Puerto Rico 2002 -2003

Mechanical construction coordinator during the installation of a new $54MM Lyophilization system. System consisted in the installation of a Niro Fluid Bed Dryer, transfer equipment, laboratory equipment and retrofit of an existing facility including HVAC equipment. Responsible for field coordination of all mechanical trades of the project (Clean and Common Utilities). Also responsible for startup and commissioning of HVAC including AHU’s, Dehumidifier, CHW and pumps, WFI and clean steam.

SHELL - Yabucoa, Puerto Rico 2002 - 2003

Design team lead during the development of P&ID “as-builts” within several areas of the operating facility. Filed verified existing equipment and piping arrangements versus record documents.

WYETH - Guayama, Puerto Rico 2002 - 2003

Lead Piping Designer for a 55,000 square feet facility for a new QA/QC laboratory including distribution of Chilled Water, Steam/Condensate, Compressed Air, USP water, Vacuum, Potable Cold/Hot water, laboratory gases and other utilities. Responsible for equipment arrangements and developing P&ID’s for Heat Exchangers, pumps, Vacuum pumps and other equipment.

BRISTOL MYERS SQUIBB - Humacao, Puerto Rico 2001 - 2002

Mechanical lead and construction coordinator during the $30MM remodeling and expansion of existing three-story solid dose manufacturing facility. Assisted Construction Manager with quality assurance for engineering, procurement, construction and start-up and commissioning of WFI, CHW, HVAC and steam/condensate. Robert also assisted with process equipment setting.

PFIZER (formerly PHARMACIA) - Arecibo, Puerto Rico 2000 - 2001

Lead piping designer during the detailed design phase of a new $60MM pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Developed construction documents for the installation of HVAC Utility systems, Process systems and Clean Utility systems. Provided support during the construction and startup phase. Support consisted of verifying systems installation and troubleshooting when equipment was not functioning adequately.

PFIZER (formerly PHARMACIA) – Arecibo, Puerto Rico 2000 - 2001

Piping Lead during final phase of piping design for new Work Center “A”. Responsible for the preparation of orthographic and isometric drawings for the retrofitting and addition of a 5,000 gallon glass-lined reactors, receivers, a process transfer station, a self discharge filter/dryer, one Apovac units, condensers, a liquid drum addition station and all associated ancillary equipment and interconnecting piping. Was later transferred to the field to support client’s CM firm mainly responding to contractor RFI’s.
