Senior Electrical Engineer

Performed designs of medium, high and extremely high voltage substations.

Designs are for voltages from 13.8 kV to 345 kV substations.

Developed complete System 1 and System 2 Protective Relay replacement for Bulk Power System stations throughout New England.

Also performed IEEE 485 DC voltage battery calculations.

Designs included protection and control for substation circuit breakers and substation power distribution, lighting, communication and fire alarm systems.

Designs also include Overcurrent Protective Device Coordination and full plans and specifications of new and modified electrical systems.

Design work included many substations in Rhode Island, South Eastern Massachusetts and Wisconsin.

Also performed forensic analysis on medium voltage, and high voltage substations.

During substation design, overcurrent protective device coordination and voltage drop calculations were performed for substations feeders.

Designed a project that included a complete campus wide digital electric meters on all facilities on campus.

Meters were accessible from Web based host program.

U.S. Navy – Newport, RI 2006 – 2011

Lead Project Engineer for Newport Naval Base $11 million sewer system upgrades.

Project included provisions for seventeen (17) sewage lift stations.

One station was provided with larger pumps using Full Voltage Non-Reversing (FVNR) starters and adjustable frequency drives, emergence diesel generators, total redundant PLC level control systems, and remote control by a base Landis and Gyr SCADA network.

Fault current study performed for all sewage lift stations.

Performed design to modifications of base substations including forensic analysis on medium voltage electrical power substations.

NSTAR – Yarmouth, MA 2001 – 2006

Manager of design engineers in the Yarmouth, Massachusetts NSTAR field office.

Responsible for engineering designs of substations in Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.

Performed forensic engineering at multiple sites on Cape Cod.

Case involved a 34.5 kV flash-over, resulting in a three-phase bolted fault, equipment damage, and serious personal injury.

Performed extensive research into areas of flash-over phenomena, proper medium voltage switchgear installation, NEC 70E and OSHA regulations for safe work practices.

Company was found not responsible for electrical explosion
