Jon E. Zimmer

I am an experienced Unix/Linux System Administrator and Storage Area Network (SAN) Engineer with 20+ years experience in Enterprise Information Technology environments. While my main experience is with Unix systems and SAN management I also have experience administering Windows environments and some virtual environments (hypervisors/Vmware). I am an excellent communicator who can work autonomously and also enjoys being a member of an excellent team. Collaboration between knowledgeable groups working towards a goal of achieving greatness always drives me to perform at my highest capacity. I thrive on getting into the mud of a situation, determining the resolution to an issue and completing the project on time, on budget and to the greatest satisfaction of the client. I am a determined 'go getter' who can implement new installations, perform problem determination/root-cause analysis and maintain your environment with outstanding results. I am a thorough documentor and auditor of servers, architectures or environments to ensure all aspects are properly documented to ensure ease of management. I hope I can show you what an excellent addition I would be to your organization.

November 2016 – Present Great Wolf Lodge, Grand Mound, WA

Housekeeping Floor Supervisor

I started working at Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, WA as a temp called in to replace all sleeper sofas in the resort hotel. When this work was completed I was kept on to help with housekeeping (stripping rooms of linens and towels to prepare them for cleaning, stocking supply closets etc). My hard work was appreciated and I was informed by management that there was a supervisor position opening and I was hired on fulltime in February. My duties are to supervise housekeeping staff to ensure all rooms on my assigned floor (up to 50 rooms) are cleaned and ready for guests each day by 4:00pm. This requires motivating staff to work at a fast pace, inspecting rooms to ensure high cleanliness standards, helping the team be successful by making sure they have all supplies necessary to complete the job or by helping clean rooms. I also mentor new team members and embue them with the Great Wolf culture. I interact with guests all day responding to questions, or helping with any issues they may experience (lost items, locked room safes etc) and ensuring they are having a fun time at the resort. I came in to do a small job and my hardwork and leadership skills were recognized, my customer service skills were appreciated and I’ve shown them what a great leader and team member I can be. At times my language skills have come into play with staff and guests as well.

March 2006 – May 2016 CDI Corporation, Centralia, WA

Storage Area Network Engineer/IT Security

Contracted to IBM Global Services working in a variety of jobs over 10 years. Most recently I was in a position of leadership on The Hartford account as a security focal, priority project dispatcher, workload management, storage allocation/reclaim and installation/decommission design review. Designed storage allocations, and reclaims. Performed new system installation design in collaboration with the storage architect team and server and networking teams. Administered 180+ Qlogic Intelligent Passthru Modules (IBM FC3171) maintaining proper firmware, vaulting 300+ shared IDs, responding to any and all errors, managing all connections to the SAN attached either to IBM Bladecenter or IBM Pureflex chassis. Managed and administered 10,000+ port SAN utilizing IBM storage XIV, Storwize V7000, IBM SVC, DS8000 series, DS4000 series, EMC VMAX, DMX, Symmetrix, Clarrion, Cisco MDS, McData SAN Directors, Brocade SAN switches, IBM TPC, Netbackup and some NETAPP FAS. Performed Storage array installations and decommissions performing initial storage design, verifying interoperability, configuring remote arrays for disaster recovery, configuring copy services and replication maintaining these configurations for the client.

Worked cooperatively with server and storage architects, database administrators, project managers, server administrators in daily management of all systems utilizing external storage. Conducting problem determination, proactively monitoring SAN/NAS devices to ensure proper function and best practices were followed and maintained. I have a very good understanding of the Transition Transformation Integration Architect role because of the experience I had on this team. During my five years supporting The Hartford account we migrated from EMC Symmetrix to DMX, and from DMX to VMAX, then from VMAX to IBM XIV, SVC and Storewize V7000 storage. The last three years in this position I was given the responsibility to manage storage for 30 IBM Bladecenter racks and 20+ IBM Pureflex racks. This included the installation and management (troubleshooting, upgrade, networking etc) of 50+ Qlogic Intelligent Passthru Modules, 300+ shared IDs (via ITIM Vault management). I also worked very closely with the Vmware server administrators installing, relocating and troubleshooting virtual hosts, zoning, mapping and masking storage for these hosts and moving hosts from one blade to another if necessary. While I was not on the Vmware server team I gained enough experience in this role and performed enough server administration that I could effectively administer virtual hosts in a Unix or Windows environment.

In my 10 years as a Storage Area Network Administrator I have had many occasions to work with Storage Architects both for daily work on client accounts as well as working transitions, tech refreshes, migrations from EMC to IBM SAN storage, IBM Sharks to V7000 or XIV, new installations and decommissions. As Department Security Focal I ensured all team members are aware of security issues, trained them in security measures and ensured they were following these standards. As Security Focal I managed all SAN Shared IDs for systems and devices we managed (about 300 IDs), ensuring these IDs were stored in the ITIM vault and updated every 90 days. Also in the capacity of Security Focal I was tasked with performing quarterly employment verification and privileged access reviews to ensure only authorized users have access to our systems and any employees who have moved on have had their IDs removed from all systems. This included working with the IBM security team to manage TACACS user ACLs and working with The Hartford client's Active Directory team for the same purposes. The role of SAN/NAS Team Dispatcher required me to monitor client incident and change queues either via Remedy or ServiceNow to dispatch new work and monitor work in progress in order to ensure work was completed on priority basis (where applicable) and nothing was forgotten or left behind. I maintained several Microsoft Excel spreadsheets including pivot tables in order to track the work from initial implementation through completion. This collateral position also required me to review and approve changes created by team members for accuracy and completeness prior to the change being reviewed and approved by upper change management members. I was considered to be in team leadership position as a team dispatcher and department security focal. I am a team player who can work within a team and will take lead if needed.
