Re: Editorial Position
Dear HR Manager,
Thank you for taking the time to consider me for this position. Let me begin by saying that working in this field has been a dream of mine for a very long time. I’ve been working various publishing internships for the past year and am looking to move on to a full-time publishing position.
Currently, I'm an editorial intern at Stonesong Literary, a literary agency in NYC. As part of my responsibilities, I read hundreds of queries and several complete manuscripts per week. I also write reader reports, take part in meetings regarding solicited and unsolicited material, compare contrasts, and discuss agency client careers. Previous to this, I was introduced to the publishing world as an editorial intern at Sheedy Literary Agency where I worked hard to learn the ins and outs of this industry. Through my time at these internships, I’ve developed a special and committed relationship with authors and have found my calling in these kinds of environments.
Besides actual work, I also worked part-time in the Writing Center of the Georgian Court Library. An associate professor at the institution, Dr. Anthony Brano, recognized the exceptional quality of my writing and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to both hone my skills and assist students that were less adept at paper writing than I.
I accomplished all I have in both the internships, academic excellence, and student tutoring, all while also holding a full time job as an Assistant General Manager at a food market in order to pay the bills. I believe that this shows very clearly that I am a multi-faceted individual who does not break when things get hectic. In fact, I believe that it is precisely in these situations that I thrive and am fully able to display all my talents and skills.
I’d like to thank you again for taking the time to read my resume and cover letter. I am very excited to begin my career and to prove myself in this industry. I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Luis Bernal
