To whom it may Concern:
I recommend Bobbie Newman as a counselor, teacher, or administrator without reservation. Mrs. Newman joined Springfield High as we moved into a new building for 1400 students, flush with federal dollars from an eight year national DOE exemplary education project. She helped breathe life into our academy programs and provide new opportunities for students.
A woman of multiple talents and strong work ethics, she designed an excellent, comprehensive counseling program, supervised a refit of the curriculum, organized a Career Fair, published a school newsletter, established a Career Center, spearheaded the new district graduation requirements program, and taught career education classes for LEA and District staff development programs through Oregon State and the University of Oregon. Perhaps her greatest contribution to Springfield High School and the Springfield School District was her ability to help staff connect to new educational delivery systems and creatively adapt curriculum to meet the needs of tomorrow. She led by example, did her homework, and provided support to teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators. Students, parents and teachers operated as a team through teacher advisory committees, internship programs, tutoring programs and summer work experience opportunities. Mrs. Newman does not accept no for an answer. If programs were good for kids and the community, she found a way to make them happen. By showcasing educational products, she helped bring local, state and national recognition of our innovative approaches to education. She also coauthored a book on Career Education with Keith Goldhammer, highlighting Springfield student and staff accomplishments.
Mrs. Newman is a team member who understands students, the dynamics of change and how to communicate effectively with school audiences. She will be an invaluable asset to any school program.
Sincerely,
William P. O’Neal

Memo: For whom it may concern
Subject: Recommendation
From: Jim Jarvis, Thomas Jefferson School of Science and Technology
I was honored to have team taught geosystems for three years with Bobbie Newman. I knew her professionally when we both taught at Chantilly High School prior to the opening of Westfield High School.
I understand Bobbie is applying for a teaching or administrative position with St. Johns County Public Schools. I can imagine no one more qualified for the position. Here’s why:
1) She knows her stuff. She’s a walking encyclopedia of special education concepts as well as applicable regulations and laws. She has a wealth of experience both teaching and practicing those skills.
2) She seriously cares about our students. Her knowledge cited above is not merely abstract. She knows how to use it in particular cases to make it personal and applicable. She truly wants to see her students succeed and puts in vast amounts of energy to ensure that they have the attention and accommodations needed for success.
3) She is remarkably perceptive. She understands teenagers and their motivations as well as anyone I’ve met in the educational field. She connects her questions and observations with a student’s scores and records. She’s a splendid analyst and readily spots trends.
4) She follows through. Many people are wonderful to work with at a given moment. Bobbie goes far beyond that. What may appear to be even off-handed observations or suspicions are followed through conscientiously with a phone call or record check.
Bottom line: Bobbie is a jewel to work with!

Subject: Reference for Bobbie Newman
It is with pleasure that I unequivocally recommend Bobbie Newman for a counseling position. We worked together during the summer in a fast paced remedial program for students Grades 9-12. Lacking our usual software support due to IT rewrites, Bobbie designed a system for credit accountability, evaluation and parent communication. That program ensured counselor effectiveness as we monitored successful completion of summer coursework and graduation requirements.
Although our students were from four high school attendance areas, Bobbie quickly established her credibility and provided invaluable academic and social guidance and support to her students. Without her quick intervention, two of her seniors would not have graduated summer school. She also prepared graduation letters for select students and planned graduation exercises for students and families. This included a graduation reception, our first for such a large summer school crowd.
Kids love Bobbie, recognize her knowledge and listen to her. She spent countless hours coordinating classroom assignments/assessments with teachers and parents. She also provided tutoring for students in math and language arts and coordinated completion of a home schooling class.
Bobbie arrives early, leaves late and is a veritable mint of information. She is highly organized, knowledgeable regarding curriculum opportunities and well versed in career programs and job trends. Her experience with SAT and ACT programs, test accommodations and financial aid was particularly helpful to our juniors.
Sincerely,
Janet Nelson
To whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter in support of the work Bobbie Newman has done over the years to support me and the students with whom we both work. On many occasions, Mrs. Newman has sought my input regarding students on her caseload. She takes an active interest in each student and his/her career goals. She shares her concerns as well as stories of her students’ triumphs. She is accommodating and supportive about affording me the time to meet with her students in order to complete the transition pages of their IEP documents. She works hard to honor the needs of her students while also making every effort to accommodate the schedule of parents, students, and specialists.
Mrs. Newman is masterful at facilitating IEP meetings. She exhibits a full understanding of the roles of each IEP member and the laws that govern those roles. She honors everyone’s time and adheres to the IEP agenda. During IEP meetings, Mrs. Newman speaks directly to the student and parents, ensuring that the material being discussed is understood. She refrains from using jargon, acronyms, or other potentially confusing language without explaining herself and the IEP process thoroughly. When Mrs. Newman is running an IEP meeting, each and every individual at the table knows that he/she is a valued member of the IEP team.
Mrs. Newman embodies the concepts of kindness, respect, and humility. I have never known Mrs. Newman to share an unkind word, through either verbal or written communication. One of the qualities I admire most in Mrs. Newman is her ability to see the best in others. She naturally notes the positive attributes of even her most challenging students. She makes every effort to know her students, their needs, and their sensitivities.
Mrs. Newman exemplifies the manner in which one should present oneself and treat others within a professional environment. There is much that I and each of her colleagues can learn from her example.
Respectfully,
Julie Bentley
