Process & Design Engineer
Coordinated and contributed to all aspects of process and design engineering, including evaluating and preparing strategies for improving water/wastewater systems to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Provided project leadership and support for various process design initiatives, including budget management, proposal development, cost estimates, client relations, vendor negotiations, progress reports, ISO training and ISO inspections. Developed and maintained strong cross-functional relationships to support the attainment of project and operational goals. Served in a leadership role, providing coaching, mentoring and support for new employees. Partnered with leadership and other departments for strategic planning to drive continuous improvement across all functional areas.
Conducted operational and system assessments to identify cost-effective solutions, including new equipment and processes; drove 5%+ profit improvement throughout tenure by recommending new equipment and systems.
Designed a 500 KLD Zero Liquid Discharge system, providing 95% water recovery through multiple effect evaporator technology after ultra-filtration membrane and 2-stage RO.
Enhanced 200 kilo liters per day sewage treatment plant in MBR technology through the installation of VFD in aeration grids, yielding 80% improvement of solids handling unit.
Introduced PLC based automation system in all MBR installations, coordinating functions of flow meters, pressure gauges, diffusers and pH meters; new process resulted in significant cost savings.
Participated in 2 projects treating 1M gallons of sewage waste, handling development of process and information diagram, hydraulic calculation, pumps and valve selection.
Partnered with marketing team to develop process for bidding on projects, which drove $25K cost savings.
Selected as an integral part of the SAP implementation process, working with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless deployment of new technology, which enabled communication and collaboration between design team, inventory and execution teams.
Worked on multiple projects for leading clients, including the MBBR system for Samsung CNT, Korean company.
Designed and managed social media campaign for the company to improve marketing plan and enhance the brand; new campaign led to a venture capital firm expressing interest in funding SIMA Labs for 1 year.
Represented company at annual water conference to discuss company projects and accomplishments.
Academic Projects & Research Experience
Conducted FTIR and EPS analysis on bio-fouled membrane to quantify efficiency of 2 bio-foul cleaning agents. Determined the streaming potential and contract angle of membrane samples with silver nanoparticles. Recovered flux of 20% in a lab scale RO after 70% permeate decline by optimizing cleaning agent concentration.
Designed 2 systems, a coagulation and RO membrane system and ion exchange treatment system for Vacaville, CA to reduce chromium maximum contaminant level from 100 ppb to 10 ppb.
Created a sustainability metric for analyzing the performance of wastewater treatment system in India. Developed an adaptive management solution to increase usable water by 20% in decentralized systems.
Utilized regression model to calculate emissions from 3 landfills in Phoenix to convert solid waste to carbon dioxide equivalent. Projected reduction in vehicle emissions due to increase in diversion rate in Phoenix from 14% to 22%.
