Yanilia Santos – West Kendall Baptist Hospital

As a college volunteer, I have a wide range of opportunities at Baptist Hospital. I have the privilege to be involved with a beautiful group of people, where I get to grow as an individual and fulfill my dreams in becoming a Pediatrician. I have been presently volunteering at Baptist Hospital for four years and it has been a wonderful experience. For the first three years, I spent my time doing errand services where I was able to get to know the different sections of the hospital and help make other people's job easier. Some of the errands I would take part in were the following: play games with young patients, direct visitors to a loved one's room, deliver letters to someone who has been hospitalized, take food to a patient's room,take blood samples to the lab and heart monitors to the nurses. However, as of 2016, I decided that I wanted to volunteer at a different section of the hospital where I get to interact with children and be around the people I will hopefully get to be one day. At the Pediatrics department of the hospital, I interacted with children of all ages, cleaned the dirty toys for the children, and most importantly I was able to make a little boy or girl's day for just simply bringing them toys or talking to them. Overall, as a volunteer I have the opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends, and fulfill society's need for individual's to make a difference and be active in a positive way. Pinecrest Preparatory Middle High - 14901 SW 42nd St, Miami, FL 33185 At this amazing school, I was given the opportunity to advance my education. Instead of completing the twelfth grade as most students do, I was able to be a part of the Early Admissions Program at Miami Dade College. The Early Admissions program allows students, like myself, to begin and even finish their Associates degree while still being in high school.
