HDR Experience Overview
Mr. Blue is the Design Center CAD Tech for the Raleigh, NC office. As
such, his duties supporting multiple disciplines are varied, ranging from
efficient red lining to civil design under broad direction. He is known
local and remote offices for being a team player, positive especially under
pressure and a good communicator with both clients and managers.
For the solid waste group, he uses Civil 3D in preparation of site plans in
both permit and final design, performs cell and grading design, site
development, road design, earthwork and airspace calculations, subsurface
profiles, bid calculations, design documentation, quality control and
review of drawings, and site monitoring.
For the water/wastewater group, Mr. Blue creates plan and profiles,
performs pipe layout and sizing using Hydraflow Stormsewer, erosion control
design, construction cost estimate, spec work, site visits as company
representative, some modeling using HEC-RAS in addition to extensive
drawing prep from preliminary design to construction and as-builts.
For the transportation group he does extensive road design, parking lot
layouts, pavement marking plans, cost estimates, spec work, and ditch
calculations for NCDOT, GDOT and numerous others at state and local level.
He has also done field work as a certified Assistant Bridge Inspector, Rail
Inventories for NCDOT, electrical panel wiring, P&IDs and proposal
diagrams.
Sampling of Key Assignments
Bonnie Doone Drainage Project, City of Fayetteville, NC - CAD Designer.
Mr. Blue developed from preliminary design to Issued to Bid Conceptual
Drainage Improvement Plan to provide an adequate storm drainage system.
This task also included stormwater calculation of drainage areas, inlet and
pipe sizing and placement using HydraFlow and calculating construction
quantities.
NC Dept of Environment & Natl. Resources, Off-Line Flood Storage, Clyde,
NC, Clyde, NC - CAD Designer. Feasibility study, design, permitting, and
construction administration, associated with the creation of off-channel
floodwater storage and wetland park along the Pigeon River in the Town of
Clyde, NC. Mr. Blue designed the relocated road and assisted in the site
design and erosion control in addition to providing plan drawings.
East Park, Cherokee County, Geogia - CAD Designer. HDR is working with
Cherokee County to design a new 150-acre athletic complex on SR20. He
provided roadway improvement services. These included widening the adjacent
highway to accommodate the park, designing the park entrances and service
road, and submitting the required lane marking, grading and drainage plans.
Williard Ferm Architects, PA, Raleigh Fire Station 29 - Civil Designer.
Mr. Blue provided roadway design services as a subcontractor for a City
project. Work included the widening of Leesville Road and designing
entrances into the Fire Station along with grading, storm drainage, lane
marking, and erosion control. Project also including the design of a road
to be used for a future park behind the fire station.
Fort Bragg, Womack Army Medical Center Helipad, Phase 2, NC. CAD
Technician. Phase 2 design services and preparation of construction
documents to reconstruct a replacement helipad servicing the Womack Army
Medical Center (WAMC) . The project included locating the helipad to
minimize disturbance to the hospital parking and loop roads, providing
adequate ambulance and fire fighting access.
Northshore/Brentwood Lake/Dam Design, City of Raleigh, NC - CAD Designer.
. Designed improvements to Northshore Lake and Brentwood Today lake in
effort to rehabiliate the existing dam and enhance water quality
Microstation, Land Desktop Development and Civil 3D to prepare earthwork
calculations, grading and general design support.
SPSA-Regional Landfill Engineering - Cell V Operations Support, Proposed
Cell VI, Future Cell VII, Proposed Transfer Station, Suffolk, VA - CAD
Tech. Provided routine and non-routine CAD support for various SPSA
projects including permitting, grading design (cell and road, plan and
profiles), earthwork and airspace calculations, bid calculations, and
preliminary bid to final construction drawings. Also performed GIS tasks
for Class 1 Permit Application assistance and assisted in FAA Report on
Airport Safety Demonstration.
USACE - Sacramento, Marysville Ring Levee. CADD Technician. Provided
general CAD support of levee improvements for the 10 sites along the
American River. Mr. Blue's services were crucial in meeting extremely tight
deadlines.

ECS Experience Overview
Mr. Blue has experience in geotechnical boring layouts for design and
construction of municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential
facilities in North Carolina and Virginia. Mr. Blue converted engineering
designs into the CAD format and generated figures used in geotechnical
reports. In the material testing lab, he performed dynamic cone
penetrometer tests (DCP), standard Proctor compaction tests, and bulk
specific gravity of asphalt. While working with the environmental
department, he performed stream reading, flow volume computations and has
assisted the Wetlands Group in stream delineation. Other duties included
foundation elevation readings, building crack monitor assessments, property
condition surveys, assisted in seismic refraction tests and drainage area
calculations for culvert sizing reports.
Mr. Blue has a working knowledge of AutoCAD 3D Map, Pathfinder Office,
Terrasync, Trimble GeoXH along with other gps units, ArcGIS, Surfer, water-
level meter, Pro-Level Manometer, theodolites, engineering grade optical
levels and laser levels.
Sampling of Key Assignments
East Carolina University North Regional Campus, Greenville, NC - Mr. Blue
conducted boring layout and made recommendations for the 130 acres of
undeveloped agricultural land to be used for athletic fields and
facilities, 6 ponds of different sizes, and associated roads and parking
areas. Generated CAD site and boring layout figures.
Widewater Commons Shopping Center, Knightdale, NC - Mr. Blue conducted
initial boring layout for entire shopping center, gathered bulk samples for
testing, and made recommendations for boring location adjustments. He also
conducted subsequent layouts for Home Depot, Target and Arby's stores in
the shopping center and has generated numerous figures and CAD layouts used
in the geotechnical reports.
Vance, Warren, Franklin, Granville County, NC - He conducted stream flow
evaluations on rivers and streams throughout these counties. He then
computed figures used in Phase 1 environmental reports.
Motorcoach Retreat, Fancy Gap, VA - Mr. Blue coordinated data collection
using the Trimble GeoXH for extensive stream delineation project. Due to
unique conditions of the area, he designed and implemented an apparatus to
be used in conjunction with the Zephyr antenna and the Trimble GeoXH.
RDU Center 1, Morrisville, NC - Mr. Blue led a team of technicians to
conduct interior and exterior elevation measurements to be used in
determining slab settlement. Also generated Surfer and CAD diagrams.
