Mr. John Aven
Recruiting Manager at SKW Constructor
Portsmouth, Virginia
Dear Mr. Aven
I am writing in response to the opening for Survey Party Chief, which I believe
may report to you.
Construction and road improvements along Virginia Highways in the Hampton
Roads have been ever increasing in the last few years. The funding of the new
route 460 and the ground breaking of the mid-town tunnel are two major steps
taken in the last few months towards the revitalization of our Virginia Highways.
The Virginia economy is getting strong for our industry.
My experience is balanced equally with field and office time. As you can see
from the attached Resume, I have a broad range of experience within the Civil
Engineering and Land Surveyor field. As a surveyor I have worn many hats, field
surveyor, researcher, CAD Draftsman, designer and decision maker. To me that
is what it takes in the Land Surveying Profession. Always be progressive and
learning new things in order to produce a quality product, keeping ahead of the
crest while maintaining proven standards of the practice.
Now you may notice a gap in my surveying professional experience. I did not let
this time go to waste. During this time I have secured new certifications and skill
sets that will serve well for myself and to you. I have taken on positions, which
take me in direct contact with the public on a daily basis.
I have attached my résumé for your review and would welcome the chance to
speak with you sometime.
Sincerely,
Ronald E. Carter, LS
P.S. Thank you for taking the time to read my cover letter. I truly believe given my
broad range of experience that I can be an asset to your firm. At your convenience, I can
be reached at 757-***-**** or email at *********@*****.***. Once again thank you.

Re: Project Surveyor Reference Letter for Mr. Ronald Carter
Dear Hiring Manager:
I am offering my recommendation of Ronald Carter, LS based on his performance as a Survey Project
Manager during his tenure with Hoggard-Eure Associates, P.C. In that time, Mr. Carter proved to be a
valuable addition to our company, distinguishing himself by consistently preparing and submitting
exceptionally well-researched and quality property surveys for our clients.
I have known Mr. Carter for 8 years in my capacity as Director of Surveying at Hoggard-Eure Associates
and his proven analytical and communication skills shown through while he worked on various projects as
Project Manager. Based on his work, I would rank him as one of the best Licensed Surveyors we have
had whose employment here was cut short due to the economic climate we found ourselves in.
In light of his past performance, I believe he would be an extremely positive asset to your program.
If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at my office or via email at
*****@*******-****.***.
Sincerely,
HOGGARD-EURE ASSOCIATES
J. Stephen Ferguson, LS
