WORK EXPERIENCE
Mechanical Engineer, Service and Parts Department, WMW Machinery Company,
Deer Park, NY July 2011 - Present
. Coordinated teams of WMW engineers for service visits of installation,
inspection, and/or repair of machinery.
. Managed sales of replacement parts to customers for the market of
North and South America.
. Provided first-line technical support and troubleshooting of common
mechanical and electrical problems.
. Delivered on-site start-up training to customers after machine
installation.
ENGINEERING COURSEWORK
Design of Mechanical Systems, Design of Basic Mechanical Elements
Spring 2011
. Designed several mechanical subsystems such as drive trains, conveyor
belts, indexing devices to defined standards
and specifications; which integrated mechanical elements such as
springs, bearings, gears, belts, and shafts.
. Analyzed and evaluated stress concentrations, tension forces and
failure due to buckling or fatigue using different
design factors. Gained knowledge in Material Selection Process and
obtained further experience with MATLAB.
Senior Project, Aerodynamic Drag Reduction of a Trailer Truck
Fall 2008 - Spring 2009
. Created different designs for boat-tail attachment to the rear of a
1:53 scale trailer truck model in order to modify air
flow. The purpose was to reduce the low-pressure region formed in the
rear while in motion in order to reduce drag.
. Accomplished a drag reduction of 6% which translates to savings of
approximately $800 million in yearly fuel costs.
. Utilized experience with wind tunnel experiments and gained further
knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics.
Fluid Mechanics Final Project, Race Car Aerodynamics
Fall
2007
. Analyzed and evaluated aerodynamic properties on a 1:12 scale race car
model. Improved the design of the vehicle's
aerodynamic profile to increase negative lift and reduce drag, thereby
augmenting its performance.
. Obtained experience using wind tunnel experiments and gained knowledge
of Computational Fluid Dynamics.
COLLEGIATE ACTIVITIES
Math & Spanish Tutor, Kenny Community Center, Schenectady, NY
Spring 2009
. Tutored Schenectady High School students for NYS Regent Examinations
for Math B and Spanish and provided
preparation for SAT Exams. Motivated students to utilize different
methods of approach and problem solving.
Chapter President and Current Member, Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity
Fall 2008 - Spring 2009
. Planned and executed events including presentations and debates
discussing important Latin American topics.
Treasurer, ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers)
Fall 2006 - Spring 2007
. Collaborated with team leaders in order to organize and execute events
and participate in national conferences.
Vice-President, SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers)
Fall 2006 - Spring 2007
. Facilitated the re-establishment of the chapter and motivated students
to attend national conferences.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel and
Power Point. Fluent in Spanish.
