PROJECTS

POST GRADUATION PROJECT PROFILE:

Finite Element Analysis Of Electrical Multiple Unit Coach Bogie

Bolster at "INTEGRAL COACH FACTORY" in Chennai.

Description:

Designing a new component or modifying the existing

component of any system should lead to better result. This Project deals

with the Modeling and Analysis of bogie bolster for Electrical Multiple

Unit coach through Finite Element Analysis technique. The bogie bolster is

a box type fabricated member made up of channels and welded to the body of

the coach. ICF bogie is made up of Structural steel channels and angles

welded to form the bogie bolster. The bogie bolster transfers the dead

weight of the coach body to the bogie frame. Whereas the bogie bolster is a

free floating member which takes the entire load of the coach through the

body bolster. In bogie bolster there are Two side bearers and a center

pivot pin are joined by excellent quality welding. These are very vital

parts for smooth running of a train. The thickening in the wall of the

bolster is understood to reduce the stress concentration in the area of the

bolster. The Design and the loading conditions to be applied were given by

Integral Coach Factory (ICF). Weight of the bogie bolster is main

consideration of this project. Modeling of a bogie bolster was done through

the 3D Modeling software and analysis of bogie bolster was performed by

Standard finite element code. Based on the FEA results the necessary

modifications were done on that model in order to reduce the weight of the

component. Then finite element analysis is done on Modified design to get

the stress and total deformation across the model and to know whether the

design is safe or not.

UNDER GRADUATION PROJECT PROFILE:

Design Modification to improve the Productivity of Band Making Machine at

"TVS SRICHAKRA LIMITED" in Madurai.

Description:

This Project has been done in the final product

manufacturing area of TVS Srichakra in the Export plant. The main problem

of band making machine has been studied. In band making machine the

followings are identified. First one is delay in supply of the Squeeze

material, since it is stored away from the machine and second one is more

time spent for separating the band from the base cloth which was wound over

the spindle. This Project is concerned with increase in rate of production

and reducesthe time of manufacturing. We suggested to fabricate a holding

setup for the band, and there by eliminate the operator's fatigue. This

setup is mainly having two units. One unit consists of shaft rollers for

squeeze loading. The other unit consist of pneumatic cylinder and "U"

Clamp. This is used to clamp the cloth of the band so that the band alone

can be separated Manually.

Mini Project:

Design and Fabrication of Hydraulic Pipe Bending Machine during the year

2009.
