CLINICAL TRIALS EXPERIENCE:
AIDS Malignancy Consortium (AMC) Pilot Study S001: 70 patient international
study.
Investigated the potential use of Ganciclovir as therapeutic drug for
Kaposi Sarcoma in AIDS patients in Malawi. Developed viral gene
expression assay using high-throughput qPCR. Developed assay to determine
viral load from plasma specimens. Performed all experiments for trial,
analyzed data and reported results to collaborators (manuscript in
preparation).
AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) Study A5254: 360 patient, multi-site,
cross-sectional study.
Examined salivary viral load of herpesviruses. Designed and developed
SOPs to isolate and quantify herpesviruses in saliva using high-
throughput automated qPCR. Contributed to designing Manual of Operations
and participated in study-related conference calls.
UNC AIDS Malignancy Trial: Observational study at UNC Center for Infectious
Disease.
Initiated new observational trial at UNC hospital aimed to obtain
clinical specimens from HIV patients who have a malignancy. Assisted with
IRB development and trial publicity. Stored and processed blood and tumor
specimens, and maintained patient records for blinded samples.
LEADERSHIP AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
Research Mentor, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC
2011
Mentored and collaborated with visiting graduate student from University
of Sydney, Australia. Taught high-throughput qPCR Cytomegalovirus gene
expression array for early detection of CMV infection flares in
transplant recipients (Patent pending- Cytomegalovirus Signature Assay).
Teaching Assistant, Undergraduate Genetics Course, University of North
Carolina, NC 2008
Prepared and led recitations 3 hours/week. Held office hours, prepared
students for exams, graded assignments and exams.
Assistant Aerial Silks Instructor, Triangle Yoga, Chapel Hill, NC
2010
Assisted with beginner aerial silks fitness class. Demonstrated moves for
the purpose of teaching, gave detailed instruction, spotted students, and
answered questions.
Waitress, Tugboats Restaurant, Hyannis, MA
2007
Served customers, prepared dining area, ran the register, and cleaned
before and after service.
Apprentice Teacher, Undergraduate Genetics Course, Lehigh University,
Bethlehem, PA 2006
Held office hours and review sessions before exams as extra help for
students. Assisted students with questions they had pertaining to course
material.
Supervisor, Student Fitness Center, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA
2006-2007
Supervised other employees, made schedules, resolved issues, and
maintained paperwork.
Assistant Teacher, AP and Regents Biology, Ward Melville High School,
Setauket, NY 2005
Assisted biology teacher with three high school biology classes. Prepared
laboratory setups, assisted students with labs, prepared exam questions,
graded papers, and assisted in lesson preparation.
