To Whom it May Concern,
Please accept this cover letter, teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae, and
references for your open position.
Executive Introduction
My career objective is to act with integrity and be accountable for making
a difference in an educational or business setting as an academic and
business practitioner through continued and refined scholarly research
using a leadership style that evokes creativity, initiative, and passion of
other adult practitioners as we build an educated society for the future.
Leveraging intellectual capital (knowledge management) is a constant and
always available pathway to society and those in pursuit of knowledge.
Knowledge is a key economic resource whereas education institutions are the
knowledge brokerage centers. As an educator and administrator, I value the
behavior of forward looking to see how our Community of Practice can move
forward in making a difference in the lives of our diverse student
population while achieving results.
Throughout my career, I have often sought out challenging and multifaceted
roles and work that evolved over time. This pattern began in my first
career position. I am a leader, business manager, educator, and external
community liaison who interfaces with a triangulated and conflicting
community base. As I have studied the roles and responsibilities of
educators at various levels over the last year, it is clear that these
roles are challenging, evolve over time, and are often multifaceted. It is
for these three foundational reasons that I know I can be successful as the
President of your organization because the foundation is already well
formed and proven to be rock solid through years of constructive work
experience.
Practice - Knowledge Management
As a leader, I will use knowledge management as a way to benchmark
progress, employ continuous quality improvement, measure performance, and
enhance profit and academic success. Our society needs curriculum that
broadens student learning and strengthens a student's desire to be a
lifelong learner that contributes to continued career potential. Knowledge
management practices ensure that our educational models continue to provide
real world education that enables learners to be capable practitioners of
their field as they operate within our global infrastructure. The education
framework needs to continue to evolve with societal and technological
changes that will require an increase in interactivity, collaboration, and
relevancy; furthermore, knowledge management will ensure that the
environment continues to strengthen learning and professional growth for
learners through innovative approaches and effective career development
services that are strengthened by the relationships we develop with the
community.
As a leader and educator, I will approach this position not solely from
"How can I apply the tactics from previous experiences to be successful,"
but from a framework of challenging myself beyond what I have done to what
I am capable of - from ability to capability -- using new paradigms or
models that improve the educational landscape while concurrently balancing
budgets and increasing productivity for this campus. Ultimately, my success
is dependent upon the degree to which I am able to model the paradigm that
is being fostered and lead others to the same cause. Encouraging a sound
and rigorous curriculum assessment strategy ensures that the school is
offering a balanced and supported curriculum while taking advantage of
additional program opportunities because of critical conversations and
relationships with businesses and educators.
As an educator, I will practice from the paradigm of giving back to the
community, the profession, the learners, and the community through my
service as a committee member, colleague, scholar, practitioner, community
member, and business member to help implement changes and foster growth
within the institution through and by forming relationships with learners,
business members, and other educators. Being involved with student,
faculty, and community activities bridges the relationships, creates
connections, and gives back to businesses, and says that the State and I
are approachable and desire to make a positive imprint on society.
Leadership - Social Connections
As a leader and educator, it is my responsibility to see connections
within and outside of the Institution and act accordingly to facilitate the
common management and leadership processes; such as, change processes and
agility, organizing technological innovation, embracing the reality of the
educational front at the moment, monitoring organizational resources, and
measuring the value of social capital, based on data and research, through
an on-going analysis of financial progress and the collaboration of human
resources by motivating, inspiring, and coordinating human relations to
create organizational synergy. This involves taking risks and challenging
the status quo, being accountable, and striving for quality in every
initiative recognizing and embracing the reality that not every initiative
will work, but recognizing there is learning to be done for the purpose of
moving and leading forward.
In an administrative position, I will champion the exchange of ideas and
harness business relationships between the various business sectors and
regional marketplace by cultivating knowledge using systemic and
transformational leadership at all levels of the regional continuum.
Because of my practitioner work experiences in the public and private
sectors, I am able to connect to local businesses and market based on my
knowledge and experiences within the industries.
Further, I will provide fellow colleagues and educators the resources
needed to foster interdependent professional education while preserving
shared governance, due process, academic rectitude, and intellectual
diversity. I consider my colleagues a Community of Scholars that brings a
multitude of experiences to the school, including a variety of opinions,
options, philosophies, and methodologies. As an experienced adult
curriculum innovator, designer, and educator, I value and support
professional development opportunities to advocate teaching excellence of
faculty and will bring those opportunities to fruition using my curriculum
theory and development expertise.
Scholarship - Research
In any administrative position, I will employ action research methodologies
that can create, empower, and deliver real time and relevant concise
business and academic decisions and respond to bridges between internal and
external publics to enhance the knowledge brokerage of the institution. For
this position, this means seizing the potential to meet an unmet societal
educational need in career focused education by creating value using
empowerment leadership strategies. Our society needs individuals who are
able to transmit cognitive competencies in critical thinking, intellectual
inquiry, and knowledge capacity building. One of my research focal points
is the research of knowledge disparity between higher education and the
business environment and answering the research question of how we can
collectively bring the needs of businesses to positively affect student
learning. What new paradigms or models are needed?
Executive Conclusion
Lastly, I would like to thank you for your time in learning what I will do
as a member of your organization. This position is by no means an easy bill
to fill. Throughout my experience and research I have found that those
similar to me in terms of education, business experiences, and talents have
served education institutions exceptionally well. The blend of my business
and academic acumens afford you to use my ability to cultivate substantive
conversations and market your organization with businesses and K-12
academia to connect their needs with your offerings. I possess the ability
to be a leader who performs service in a purposeful and accountable fashion
and acts as a steward of knowledge who is focused on building diverse
communities with trust and collaboration that promotes excellence and value
for all shareholders. I have experience in performing in an array of roles
including budgeting, personnel and work environment management, program
oversight, and external public relations. I also hold content knowledge and
experience in essential areas expected in this position, including learner-
centered orientation, instructional leadership, information and educational
technologies, assessment and accountability, and administrative functions.
Lastly, and most importantly, I am humble and acknowledge when I do not
know something; I have the means, desire, and passion to find solutions to
the difficult and varied situations that arise each day; from legal issues
to student rights, from Americans with Disabilities Act to Fair Labor
Standards, and from what constitutes teaching excellence to how to evaluate
it. I have a constant thirst for knowledge, am committed to lifelong
learning, and have the courage to embrace change in the evolving world of
higher education.
Sincerely,
Ann

A STATEMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY
View of Learning
I have learned from other educators and fellow learners that learning must
be holistic; numerous learning paradigms, theories, and technologies are
utilized to enhance the learning process of learners. The result of this
infrastructure is a multidimensional framework of education promoting deep
learning to occur within a non-linear framework. Hence, I view there are
conditions of learning that motivate social interaction if instruction is
properly structured and sequenced. When this environment is present,
learners construct their knowledge through their learning experience and
reflect on their learning and participate in others learning
simultaneously. Consequently, a student-centered learning atmosphere is
created, leading to the learner's success with a real world relevancy that
evokes positive social change globally.
View of Teaching
I have had the privilege to study with some of the most dynamic, dedicated,
and passionate educator's. The commonalities of my role models include
collaboration, authentic content, and proble-based activities that
encompass the engagement theory framework. As a result, I have become an
adept critical thinker and see the benefits of conveying this attribute to
my future learners. A key ingredient in transformational education is
changing our patterns of behavior to begin to have fundamentally different
experiences that what we have known as opposed to simply doing what we know
and what we have experienced. As a facilitator of education, I must be able
to create such experiences for learners by modeling and sharing self-
reflective thoughts. I believe that an educator must be passionate and
hardworking. Teaching takes time, energy, and the ability to demonstrate
accountability and care to learners. This spells out a challenging fast-
paced environment, which fits perfectly with my persona and prior life
experiences. My instruction is non-discriminate and is delivered in a way
that stimulates learning from both visual and auditory learners by
utilizing all the technology available to me, both synchronous and
asynchronous.
Goals for Learners
I have a goal to prepare learners academically, personally, and
professionally for their successful career attainment and growth. I want to
retain learners as lifelong learners who continually strive to improve and
make a difference in their workplace environment as active learners who
construct their own knowledge by anchoring new information to pre-existing
knowledge. Learners who leave my classroom or training program walk away
with encouragement to continue onward with their education and with a
positive view of their accomplishments and lessons learned as the
architects of their newly acquired knowledge. I want my learners to value
academic honesty and ethics in their learning experiences as they work with
others and build their knowledge through collective experiences of the
learning community to which they belong and associate.
Implementing Philosophy in the Classroom or Training Programs
My priorities as a facilitator in the classroom and/or through training
programs are many due to a holistic approach. First, the learning
environment I create is positive, providing written and spoken motivation
to learners in all learning environments, inclusive of synchronous and
asynchronous eLearning environments. At the same time, to promote quality
learning, they received regular and constructive value-added feedback. This
created a respectful environment that brings collaboration and cooperation
as opposed to an authoritarian environment. Second, I provide opportunities
for learners to experience the design, direction, and implementation of
their learning process and emphasize real world relevancy to the content by
bringing in resources, literature, examples, or articles for deep
reflection and discussion. Consequently, my classroom or training programs
are filled with just-in-time learning emulating a career-oriented and
interpersonal education environment because of my guidance, providing a
bridge and scaffold to extend the learner's zone of proximal development.
Professional Development
As an educator, I continue to remain current and knowledgeable of
innovative developments in the fields that I teach and in online learning
itself. My continued affiliations with appropriate learning organizations
and my continued education will be valuable in this regard.
