Objective: I am seeking a position which would draw upon my administrative and legal experience and skills. I have an extensive background in a variety of administrative venues having been employed in the trust division of a national bank, a probate and estate planning paralegal in a large law firm and a paralegal working in all areas of law in a small firm. I currently utilize my legal background in my career in public education as the ELL/ESL (English Language Learner/English as a Second Language) coordinator for my campus working as the liaison between fellow educators and the district ensuring compliance with the federal and state mandates relevant to English Language Learners in the public schools.
Employment History:
Dysart Unified School District No. 89, Surprise, Arizona: Teacher 2005-present
I maintain administrative and legal documentation for the ELL population on my campus. I initiated a character education program on campus which focused on connection and communication with the surrounding community. I aided in the creation and management of an after school supplemental reading program which pairs students who are deemed at risk based on standardized reading assessments, with student mentors to support and provide reading intervention. This program is in its fourth year of existence and services in excess of 60 students meeting twice a week.
Cole Co. Law Offices, L.P.A., Bath, Ohio: Paralegal to Mr. Cole 1993-1994
This is a small law office comprised of approximately six attorneys and four paralegals. The firm specialized in small business, closely held businesses and all aspects of said entities.
I effectively retired with the oncoming birth of our first child, Zachary in September, 1994. I would stay home with both he and a sister born to us in November, 1998, and not decide to re-enter the work force with a new career until my children were both firmly established in elementary school.
Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths Dougherty, Co., L.P.A., Canton, Ohio: Probate and Estate Planning Paralegal 1991-1992
This is a large law firm in the city of Canton, Ohio. This group practiced all areas of law. My duties were as assigned by one of the probate and estate planning attorneys. I met with clients, prepared and filed documents for and with the court along with other responsibilities as they presented themselves.
National City Bank, Trust Division, Akron, Ohio: Administrative Assistant 1989-1991
I performed administrative duties for two trust officers of the division. These responsibilities included everything from clerical to administrative as they arose.
Education
Arizona State University, Phoenix, Arizona: Masters of Education 2007
This was an accelerated Masters and Certification (MAC) program offered through the university. The program was designed for students who had already obtained their undergraduate degree and were pursuing a career in education.
University of Akron, Akron, Ohio: Certificate of Legal Assisting 1987
I was among the first graduates of the universitys paralegal certification program. The program was appealing as students had use of the facilities in the adjoining school of law.
University of Akron, Akron, Ohio: Political Science, Bachelor of Arts 1987
Miami University, Oxford, Ohio: 1983-1985
I was also enrolled in the university pursuing a degree in political science. I returned to Akron, Ohio, my hometown in order to continue my university once my family moved overseas to Belgium. My father was employed as one of Goodyears international attorneys working in the domestic legal department. He was offered a three-year assignment in Brussels, Belgium, and our entire family was able to move with him. I would travel back and forth between Akron and Belgium during school breaks. The return to Akron also facilitated the communication between my fathers assistant in Ohio.
