PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
CONNECTICUT RESOURCES RECOVERY AUTHORITY, Hartford, CT
75 MW Waste to Energy Facility ~ 160 MW Black Start Peaking Power, Simple Cycle Facility ~ 2010 - Present
Operations Engineer, CRRA Mid-Connecticut Project
Responsible for the research, processing and tracking projects for the repair and life extension of a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facility and a Waste to Energy facility (WTE). Responsible for document control, change orders, contractor billings, and final acceptance of various projects at both facilities. Researched and scoped out a replacement instrument air compressor and state of the art heat of compression air dryer for the power plant.
Researched and prepared a detailed parasitic report with recommendations on how to reduce costs and save energy at both the waste processing and power plant.
• Power plant was running at an elevated risk due to operating it’s two instrument air compressors at all times due to increased air usage over time. New air compressor running at 75% capacity and is 40% more efficient.
• Parasitic report showed significant losses due to air compressor leakage within both facilities. Changed the way the cooling method for some bearings was done which resulted in $40,000 of savings due to reduced air losses.
• Parasitic report indicated significant electrical usage due to HID lighting within both facilities. Researched and purchased an energy transformer that reduced voltage by 20% without any lumen losses resulting in a 25% savings in electrical usage without relamping throughout the facility.
