Product Design Engineer
Design and modify sheet metal parts design using Amada AP100G programming software.Convert 3D drawing in to 2D unfolded drawing with all possible bend deductions and set back values. Create programs from 2D unfolded drawings with the best possible tooling available to reduce the amount of hits per part.Generate nesting of parts with Cut master2D process optimization software to reduce the punching tool change time and cost of labor.Design a part drawing from actual part using reverse engineering and discuss the possible changes with the client to reduce the cost and improve the process quality from prototyping stage.Keep track of all Engineering Change Requests (ECR) – part revisions and make appropriate changes to the drawing and part punching program. Decide tool assign path for complex punching profile parts to be fabricated on Vipros King.Interact with customers for different project requirements. Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to expedite the delivery of key mechanical components including tools and dies, Electronic hard wares for the chassis and enclosure, the special tooling requirement like Knock outs, ribs, counter sinking, etc. Use the available alternatives to the possible costly requirements in the product such as replacing expensive stand off hard wares by possible spot welds in the part profile. To make some of the critical parts stiffer, even use MIG and TIG welding. Scheduling the process layouts to meet the deadlines for the projects with more steps along with the one that have shorter deadlines and less quantity. Evaluate the plan to keep manufacturing cost to minimum by eliminating the waste during the production and using the available sheet off cuts for next program cycle. Create a database, which monitors the calibration and validation of all production equipment on the floor including Punching and Bending machines, fork lift and different types of Vernier Calipers, etc, using ISO: 9001 system.Address product related issues arising on the floor. Making sure the flow of production goes smooth right from punching to bending and to Pem hardware installation as well as different types of Powder coating and plating requirements.Maintain proper WORK SAFETY GUIDELINES on the production floor. Create a safety guideline for the new trainee staff. Train new production staff on the Punch press.
Achievements:-
Raising cost effectiveness along with productivity: - Handled the project of major production run of several thousands of parts by applying the possible modifications in the design stage and replacing the previous punching tools with the most current in the database to keep amount of hits to minimum. That reduced the amount of time to punch the part by 50%, achieving better quality parts with less amount of tooling requirement. In overall, this change reduced the actual cost of the project by more than 30% and time by more than half.
Tool Inventory Control: - Made a complete record of the existing tooling that includes more than 300 different tools along with some of the special tools like Lancing, Embossing and Countersinking. I designed an appropriate maintenance chart for the mechanical components on the floor.
