1982-2012 City of Newport Newport, Kentucky
1982-1988 Police Officer: Patrol Division Uniformed officer responsible for doing street patrol for a city of approximately 20,000 residents.
1988-1991 Police Detective: Investigative Division Plain Clothes Officer; my main responsibility was juvenile investigations, which entailed crimes committed by juveniles as well as crimes committed against juveniles.
1991-1993 Police Sergeant: (promoted) Patrol Division Uniformed Supervisor responsible for supervising eight to ten subordinate officers and three civilian dispatchers assigned to my shift.
1993-1996 Police Sergeant: Administration Division I performed and handled an array of administrative functions; I handled payroll for 65 employees, purchasing for the entire Police Department, preparation and implementation of the Police Department budget. I also managed the property and evidence room and was the Court Liaison.
1996-2001 Police Lieutenant: (promoted) Chiefs Office I was promoted and became the Fiscal/Records Commander; working directly for the Chief of Police. My responsibilities included; manager of four civilian records clerks and two Police officers. The sections I managed included the Traffic Section, Records Section; also in charge of payroll, purchasing, preparation, implementation of the budget. I also coordinated the biggest Special Event of the year (Riverfest) which encompassed managing over 200 Police Officers, National Guard and civilian staff.
2001-2003 Police Lieutenant: Asst. Patrol Division Commander Assisted the Patrol Division Commander in managing the largest division in the police Department, consisting of 38 officers. Within this division; we managed the SWAT Team, Honor Guard, Directed Patrol Unit, School Resource officer, K-9 Unit and Press Information. Handled numerous Special Events in addition to Riverfest.
2003-2010 Police Captain: (promoted) Patrol Div. Commander Commander of the largest Division in the police Department; after being promoted, the Traffic Section was moved under Patrol and I was in charge of implementing a new 500 meter Parking Meter program for the City of Newport. That program started with creating a Parking Meter bid package and ended with the installation of the parking meters. I also still handle the majority of the purchasing for the entire Department and manage the budget for the department.
2008-Present Partner: John Phillips Restaurant Bar My partner and I created the restaurant and we opened in 2008 in the Crestview Hills Town center. After retiring from 28 years in Law Enforcement I have been working full time since 2010. We own and operate what we call an Upscale Casual Restaurant. We are located at 2809 Dixie Highway in Crestview Hills, Kentucky 41017.
