PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Vice President of Technology/Chief Information Officer
August 1996
- PresentACORN Inc
.
Lewiston, Maine
Reports to the president of the company. Responsible for two departments with
eleven staff members. Three direct reports: Operations Manager, Lead
Programmer, and Data warehouse Developer.
Hired by this rapidly growing, privately held manufacturer to reinvigorate and
manage the stalled, migration to a new multi-site integrated manufacturing
system. Upon arriving there was an RS/6000 with a barely functional MRP system,
twelve terminals and four PCs. After three years, there are more than eighty
LAN/WAN connections on TCP/IP with voice over frame relay, connecting to one NT
server PDC, one hot standby NT PDC, one NT server BDC, two SQL 7 servers, one
IIS/Proxy server, and one Exchange server. Web technologies have been deployed
for Internet, Intranet, and as
the front end for client-server applications with SQL back-end. Developed SPVN
and E-commerce pilot project including authentication, digital certificates,
signatures, and encryption.
Developed project plans, controlled timelines, and managed end-user
expectations. Designed and wrote change order management system to facilitate
migration process and completed successful implementation after nearly 500
modifications. Developed RFPs, interviewed and selected consultants.
Managed a wide variety of projects including: CAD/CAM design system; bill of
material; shop floor systems for work in process; quality tracking; inventory
bar coding; logistics support; EDI; wide area voice/ data integration;
warehouse management system; and decision support systems. Mentored customer
satisfaction department during area redesign.
* After selling the concept, evaluated, selected, and coordinated the
installation of a warehouse management system that increased picking efficiency
by 50%, virtually eliminated picking errors, and eliminated the need for seven
full time seasonal employees.
* Wrote software to facilitate credit and collections process and reduced the
average age of receivables. One month after implementation the collections
manager reported that with the new system he was "one month and $2,000,000
ahead of [his planned] schedule."
* Architect of the organization's decision support system using data
warehousing techniques in a SQL environment.
* Negotiated telecommunications contract and reconfigured services to reduce
related costs by more than 30% per year.
* Evaluated marketing study designs for survey bias, sample design, and
correlation to prior studies. Developed the data models and performed
quantitative analysis. The resultant data was used in marketing efforts,
product development, and later by an outside market-consulting firm. Saved the
firm more than $100,000 in one consumer market study.
* Developed and sold other members of the senior management team on a
structured project development approach. This "campaign" methodology foresaw
the most common barriers to project development and provided mechanisms to
overcome them. The approach was subsequently used to deploy more than 15
mission critical initiatives and is still in use.
