OWNER AND CLINICAL AUDIOLOGIST, CHINOOK HEARING CLINICS, CALGARY, 1998 TO 2008
Markus took over the family practice, more than quadrupled its value and sold it to a large Canadian dispensing chain. This has
given Markus experience in all areas of management including aspects of business development, project management,
operations, marketing, legal, nancial and business planning. Markus continues to work at the clinic in daily patient care and is in
touch with the clinical and business needs of the successful dispensing clinic.
OWNER AND DIRECTOR, EAR WORKS INC., CALGARY, 2005-PRESENT
Markus incorporated Ear Works Inc. in 2005 and went to market with EW2.1 which was the rst release of the practice
management software that at that time exceeded the core capabilities of all its competitors, a characteristic that is true today as
well. Five years and into its third version EW4.1 is a benchmark for practice management software.
EXPERIENCE
Markus rst job after graduating was at Island Hearing in Courtenay BC. He also did practicums at the Portland VA, Portland
CDRC pediatric hospital, and a CFY at OHSU in Portland.
OUTREACHES
Markus has planned, coordinated and executed two international outreaches to Malawi and India to promote audiological help
and study the effects of malaria on hearing loss and connect locals to international infrastructure.
COMMUNITY
Markus has been involved with the local chamber of commerce health care committee, presented to and published for CMDS,
started a NGO Lifeline Malawi and served on board before stepping down, developed music strategic alliances to the clinic such
as local philharmonic and provided audiological services to the street poor in Calgary thru CUPS. Markus has been featured on
the news several times, was an expert for a seniors documentary (A New Look at Aging), taught at Grant McEwan University
and is recognized as a CE credit provider for pharmacists and physicians in Alberta. Markus has taught Audiology Online training
courses and presented at the Canadian Academy of Audiology conference as well.
