Provided direct support to the Retirement Business Senior Vice President of Finance and served as key contact for enterprise requests and initiatives. Created and led the Financial Control Unit, a team of 10 responsible for ongoing identification and implementation of business control, maintaining the finance SOX control grid for the Retirement Business and coordinating grid and controls with operations, finance, risk management, and internal auditors. Managed deferred acquisition costs policy for Retirement Finance, Controller for Retirement and Voluntary benefits businesses.

Led the transition of the newly acquired retirement business of Union Bank of California, assuring that during the transition UBOC submitted actual revenue from trading in mutual funds and setting up the ledger to support the new block of business.

Responsible for the entire ledger month end consolidated close process that included implementing controls to ensure accurate and timely data is reflected in the ledger that results in accurate and timely reporting and analysis. Including ensuring the integrity of the Financial Statements, management of the monthly close process of the general ledger and that all data is reflected accurately and timely in a controlled environment. Financial liaison to Operations, Treasury, Tax, Risk Management, Product Group and Internal and External auditors

Provided project-management, technical, financial, and accounting support for the acquisition and integration of the Cigna Retirement Business onto the Prudential retirement platform. Assessed operating and end-state systems, identified system enhancements, and ensured appropriate accounting was reflected in the ledger, training, and financial reporting.

Created SOX controls for the entire business, working with Operations and Finance to define controls and created Prudential's Balance Sheet Account Sign-off Policy and Procedures and served as gatekeeper for Retirement business.

From 2001 through 2008, served as Controller for Retirement & Voluntary Benefits business units, which included financial analysis, implementing new controls, accounting policy and chaired project teams that included Operations, Technology, and Risk Management.

Produced Operational Accounting Memos for new products, mergers, acquisitions, and customized agreements to unify language, accounting, and business requirements for new products. The system ensured operational setup was correct and that appropriate ledger accounting was generated and aligned with contractual agreements.

Created and implemented a process to provide business and portfolio manager with actual and forecasted investment and business cash inflows and outflows, enabling full understanding of daily changes in cash positions.

Reviewed and analyzed yield for short term investments and recommended moving certain cash accounts from an overnight investment to a longer duration investment strategy which increased earnings of more than $1M annually.

Changed billing process from manual process, which took 2 months to calculate and bill to an automated process, via an access database, whereby, bills were calculated in a few days.

Created a system to enable origination of private bonds to increase return, eliminate overnight balances, produce additional earnings in the millions of dollars, and enable the retirement business to comply with the Treasurer's directive related to external borrowings.

Reconciled the Commission system and the ledger and identified a $200K per quarter variance that existed for four quarters. In the end, the variance was related to overpayments to field agents, and we were able to recoup 75% of the overpayments.

Created the cash-by-segment bank-accounts structure, dividing approximately 15 general account segments to put ownership of cash management with each business unit. The new structure enabled the forecasting and cash-flow-management systems later implemented to increase earnings.
