Work

Experience DexOne yellow pages publishing company from 1988 to 2011.

I began as a typesetter in the Denver, CO office using the Harris CRT and Mergenthaler film processing unit. When we upgraded, I was one of the first to train on the Macintosh format, and helped guide the rest of my unit in the usage of these computers.

When Dex (Then US West) was creating its own graphics software, called CAT, I was sent to Omaha, NE to beta test its compatibility with what I knew advertising clients would ask for. My input guided some significant changes in the final version of this software.

After this assignment, I transferred to the new Bellevue, WA office, to take over as a co-trainer on the CAT software. During this time I also cleaned up of the then rough raster images that were the main part of the then current image and logo files.

After the CAT training of Bellevue art department had been completed, I moved into the Graphic Coordinator position, where I assigned projects to Graphics team, and proofed their work when finished.

I then moved to Market Assignment, where I routed new business leads to the various Sales teams. While there, I was instrumental in streamlining this process by working with the IT department in automating many of the tasks required. This led to full automation of MA, and to me stepping into a new position.

This new position was designated Sales Support, in which I worked directly with several Sales teams. I was responsible for proofreading all contracts before they could be submitted. I also filed all correspondence and contracts, contacted customers as needed, scanned artwork into the system, and created client specific portfolios.

In 2006, the Front Desk duty fell to the Sales Support team, and we were all trained on the multi-line phone system. I and my two team mates divided the time on the FD equally, and did our SS work there as we greeted clients, routed calls and accepted mail.

Special

Projects

Due to an incident in 2003, I worked with the home office in Denver to create a Diversity Awareness Committee. Monthly meetings and special events created a better office environment for several years.

In early 2007, the filing system needed an overhaul, so I took on the

project. After going through everything, and sending much of it off to data

storage, I trained the rest of the team to keep our hard files functional.

As each Yellow Pages book came into its selling cycle, I created

pamphlets, brochures and informational binders for the Sales teams. These

contained data on financial trends, marketing tips and various other figures

to aid clients in making sound decisions with their advertising budgets.

Skills

I have used Microsoft Office since its inception, and am in the process of training for the Microsoft certificate in Office 2010. I am also skilled in the use of Oracle and Keystone software, and am familiar with graphics software, such as Photoshop.

Education

Art Institute of Seattle - I received certificate of graduation for Computer Design in 2000. My classes included Photoshop, InDesign, HTML, Illustrator, and many others.

Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS - I completed BFA in 1982. My classes included Type Design, Photography, Airbrush and Printmaking.

Cloud County Community Junior College, Concordia, KS - I received AA in 1980. Along with general Math and English classes, I took Astronomy, Geology, Creative Writing, Sculpture, Ceramics and many others.

Interests

I enjoy writing short fiction and poetry, gardening, and creative sewing.

I am the Vice President of the local branch of the International Costumers

Guild, and a long-time member of the Society of Creative Anachronism.
