Earl A. Tonjes
Objective:
I have been fortunate to have worked in a wide variety of jobs during my Air Force and 1civilian careers. All the jobs and my educational achievements were focused on management of people, organizational structure, work processes, efficiency, quality and control of the workplace. If there is a management challenge, I can handle it. At this stage of my career, my goal is to work for a company that needs my talents. I don't want to take over the company, or to replace the person who is interviewing me. I just want to contribute in a meaningful way to improve the company I work for. If given the opportunity, I will perform.
Professional accomplishments:
After the failure of two successive higher headquarters evaluations, I took command of the largest squadron of aircraft technicians in Strategic Air Command. Intense personnel reviews, adjustments, focused training, and motivation produced excellent ratings after only three months.
Thrust into a highly technical Masters Degree program short of the math prerequisites, I completed the program in 11 months, including a thesis, with a 3.95 GPA and a distinguished graduate designation.
Highly competitive competition for promotion to Colonel normally takes place at the 20 year point. I was selected at 18 years.
I commanded Barksdale AFB for two years. Six thousand military and civilian personnel, 23,000 acres of property, responsible for every aspect of running a fairly large city, all inspection results were excellent and many units and individuals received the highest possible accolades.
Selling cars was not on my plan of things to do. However, I spent a two years doing so and sold more cars than any other salesman, even those with many years of experience.
Uniformed security is a very demanding field fraught with people problems, low wages and very demanding guard post jobs. Competition is fierce. Even so, we managed to do an excellent job of protecting 40 posts in 3 states and always covering them with qualified officers.
The ambulance billing business is very demanding in terms of ensuring all claims are properly submitted so proper reimbursement is obtained. When I came to ACS, there was no system available to automate the process. Consequently, hundreds of claims were lost within the confines of our facility. After research and demonstrations of the capabilities of document imaging equipment and workflow, storage, search and retrieval software, we were able to cut six filing positions, to locate every claim and retrieve data in an instant. We embarked on a very successful continuous process improvement program that produced higher revenues and reduced errors dramatically.
I navigated B-52 aircraft for 10 years with two Vietnam tours and 136 missions. I upgraded to Standardization Evaluation Bombardier Instructor faster than anyone ever had.
