Our focus was on education, training and reinforcement of comprehensive rehab techniques to compensate for patient deficits. I routinely cared for post acute CVA's, Spinal cord injuries, Head injuries and patients with various other conditions requiring assistance with every day living activities. Our primary goal was patient independence. I was responsible for admissions, discharges, developing and implementing care plans, patient and family education, bowel and bladder training, administering medications and treatments. Treatments: urinary catheterization, tracheotomy suctioning and care, CPAP set up and monitoring, venipuncture and EKG. I monitored and administered special diet regimes, gastric feedings, performed wound care, reinforced the proper use of assistive devices for mobility, speech, etc. I reported and documented patient status and needs; working as a team member with other disciplines. I was chosen to be a Super User ( teacher) for the EPIC computer documentation program. I oriented new personnel to the unit and trained them to perform venipuncture.
