Cades Cove District: nine months experience Resource Education and Visitor Services. Researched, developed and presented thematic interpretive programs to include: John Cable Gristmill Tours, Hayrides, Junior Ranger and Campground Amphitheater. The Cades Cove District receives two million visitors annually. Cades Cove is on the National Register of Historic Districts. The eleven-mile scenic loop road is one of the finest places to view wildlife in the Eastern United States. Assured that educational programs satisfied both first time and return visitors needs.

Interviewed Great Smoky Mountain and Cades Cove residents to incorporate first hand knowledge into Programs. Independently searched archives, oral history records and primary and secondary sources to create innovative thematic programs.

Presented well-organized thematic interpretive programs.

Developed Cable Mill thematic tours that involved hands-on visitor participation with use of tools in growing of crops and Appalachian culture that revolved around farming.

Researched, developed and presented Campground Amphitheater PowerPoint Pre-program about black bears in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Creating an emotional and intellectual understanding of management and visitor safety with this resource. Program was interactive (pictures, questions and answers with explanations) connecting the resource with the visitor.

Presented Campground Amphitheater Programs using interpretive skills and illustrated with multiple slide projectors, dissolve unit, wireless controls and sound system to interpret park role and management plans for the future of Cades Coves historic structures.

Presented thematic hayrides on Managers in the Cove. Interpreted controversial park policy to visitors that reflected National Park Services priorities and objectives in managing the resources of the Great Smoky Mountains NP and Cades Cove.

Presented Junior Ranger Programs creating emotional and intellectual connections with the Park resource of trees and their importance to both human and native wildlife existence. Junior Ranger thematic programs utilized props and equipment to involve participants with hands on experiences and meet program goals and objectives.

Developed thematic demonstration program on Woodworking Tools. Thematic program on tools was designed to demonstrate the use of tools that would have been used in Cades Cove in construction and maintenance of log structures. Visitors were able to participate in the program with use of two-man crosscut saw, shave horse and spoke shave in an emotional, intellectual and hands-on experience to connect them to the historic resource.

Independently wrote, developed, designed and implemented District non-personal services including Resource Education Programs announcement bulletin boards.

NPS Resource Education Division Special Event: Fall Harvest Hayride Fee Demonstration Program

NPS staff in the presentation of a popular special event. The single annual event coordinated by the Resource Education Division within the District accommodates over 1,000 visitors annually.

Researched and developed thematic interpretive hayrides for more then 300 visitors incorporating park critical resource issues with traditional Southern Appalachian fall harvest activities.

Utilized primary resources such as oral histories and interviews from former Cades Cove residents Bonnie Myers, Hugh Myers and John P. Cables Head Miller Hubert Suliven to complement and personalize educational program.

Utilized wireless microphone and speaker system to accompany interpretive hayrides. Responsible for the accountability and security of NPS equipment and radios.

Giving participants creating emotional and intellectual connections with the Park resource of trees and the continuum of human use of this resource.
