Progressed through promotions and program changes that resulted in increased responsibility for oversight of the treatment of as many as 100 incarcerated sexual offenders at the Sex Offender Treatment Program (SOTP), as well as representing the program in various capacities within DOC and to the general public

CMHUS duties:

As a Corrections Mental Health Unit Supervisor I am responsible for amenability screenings for potential program participants. In addition, I conduct intakes, and assess each participants treatment needs, develop initial treatment plans and assign them to their therapist.

Conduct group and individual sessions for offenders in the treatment program as needed

Provide clinical oversight for 7 clinicians on my treatment team, as well as one supervisor.

Ensure that clinicians are following evidence based practices in the treatment of program participants

Review and approve all clinical documentation for my team, including initial treatment plans, monthly progress notes and treatment summaries

Responsible for legal testimony and planning for the possibility of successful re-entry for each offender on caseload

Work with family, victims liaisons, law enforcement, and community stakeholders to help ensure community safety upon offender release

Ensure ethical standards are met in accordance with the Department of Corrections, Department of Health, and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA)

Complete annual performance reviews for each supervisee, ensure quality work, and correct/counsel when work falls short

Conduct intakes and consult on the appropriate placement of offenders on caseloads

Serve as part of a multidisciplinary board responsible for making decisions relating to treatment participants, staff, and program direction

Specialist Duties:

As a Sex Offender Treatment specialist, conducted 6-9 hours per week of group therapy (including supplemental weekly individual sessions) of 12 incarcerated sex offenders from diverse backgrounds, some with Axis I / II mental health needs

Clinical documentation for caseload includes individualized treatment plans, progress reports, and end of treatment summaries completed in a thorough, timely, and objective manner.

Provide clinical feedback on treatment documentation to ensure that it is completed in a thorough and clinically objective manner

OTHER PROGRAM CONTRIBUTIONS

Created curriculum and facilitated/taught several adjunct groups on a regular rotation to aid clients in specific skill development and in gaining understanding in specific areas relevant to their offending. Topics included: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills practice, Healthy Sexuality, etc.

Aided in the startup of a sister program at the Airway Heights Corrections Center.
