ONEBEACON INSURANCE Philadelphia PA 1975-2002

• OneBeacon is wholly owned by White Mountains Insurance Group LTD. The company is publicly traded (WTM) and specializes in property and casualty insurance. Formerly CGU and GA Insurance.

• Storage Specialist II (1998 – 2002)

• Managed the maintenance of 3.5 terabyte of mainframe storage and the recoverability of 11 terabyte of distributed storage.

o Removed 60,000 data sets from ABR control and prepared them to be placed under HSM control, this resulted in the recovery of 112 GB of DASD storage space.

o Charged with creating a smaller foot print replacing bulky spinning DASD with EMC Symetrics which at the time was brand new technology. Worked closely with EMC technicians, application groups and IBM to insure a smooth transitions thus allowing GA to save enormous amounts of power and space.

o Initiated, designed, and implemented a documentation scheme for all mainframe and distributed storage procedures. This resulted in a model for future and ongoing systems.

o Instrumental in configuring Hitachi SSD to cut back the critical batch back end by 4 hours a night thus allowing the CICS regions to come up on time.

o Expedited the combination of two data centers located in Philadelphia PA and Foxboro MA into one physical location, merging over 3 terabyte of data into common pools controlled by common software. Successful completion over a 3 day weekend.

• Storage Specialist III (1996 – 1998)

• Responsible for maintaining 800GB of mainframe DASD storage and a 30,000 cartridge tape library including a 10,000 cartridge automated library.

o Managed the HSC (Host Software Component) of the automated and wrote the code that kept the silo balanced and functioning properly.

o Researched and recommended the acquisition of additional Storage Management software to increase the efficiency of installed storage.

o Conversely identified and recommended the removal of inefficient or duplicate software to save money.

o Developed procedures to backup and safeguard data thus protecting company assets.

• Senior Operations Analyst (1992 – 1996)

• Responsible for reviewing and recommending improvements to computer procedures. Investigating and recommending software and hardware for possible acquisition. Directing the efforts of other operations analysts.

o Researched, recommended, installed, and programmed Candle Corporation's AF/Operator console automation software. This increased the efficiency of the console operators.

o Standardized, cataloged, and documented all operations procedures to serve as a training manual.

o Conversely identified and recommended the removal of inefficient or duplicate software to save money.

o Delivered a color slide presentation to 120 Console Automation Specialists at the annual Candle AF/Operator user’s conference in ST. Louis, MO – Topic: “Console Automation”.
