Career Highlights
Over 20 years of training and experience in electronics troubleshooting,
repair, and maintenance. Worked in fields including Radar, Communications,
Navigation, Video, Lasers (Including RF Laser Barcode Scanners), Software,
Mobile technology, and Test and Measurement Equipment. Also, experience in
Electronic Assembly, and Electro-Mechanical Repair and Maintenance.
Career History
Electronics Technician (1986-Present)
Radio and Laser Terminal
1998-2008 At Norand-InterMec Service Center, performed repairs and
alignment on multiple models and types of hand-held and vehicle-mounted UPC
scanners. Handled computer assisted testing and repairs, (board level and
component level,) of greater than 50 units per day.
Electro-Mechanical Technician
1994-1998 At KD Amusement Distributing, in Ames IA, performed
installations, and periodic and emergency maintenance on a wide variety of video
games, pinball machines, jukeboxes, and other, similar items.
Test and Measurement Equipment
1991-1994 While at Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity in
San Diego Ca. Worked in the test equipment repair shop, with work loads
averaging greater than 200 pieces of equipment. The shop was responsible for the
test equipment repairs of approximately 80% of the ships and facilities on the
west coast.
Additionally, while in the Navy, trained over 20 junior technicians in
troubleshooting and repair techniques.
1989-1991 After transferring to the ship’s repair department, was responsible for
performing repairs and overhauls on electronic systems and test equipment for
ships of the fleet. Included were many ships which were essential to the Persian
Gulf War effort. Also repaired systems and test equipment on a number of ships
that returned from the war badly damaged.
Radar, Navigation, and Communication
1988-1989 While in the US Navy, on board the USS Prairie in Long
Beach Ca. transformed the ship’s nearly inoperative radar system to 100%
efficient and trouble-free system. Was also solely responsible for the upkeep of
the ship’s three navigation systems. With the extra time created by the increased
radar efficiency, took on responsibilities in the communications department.
Tested, troubleshot, and repaired various HF, VHF, and UHF transmitter and
receiver systems.
Electronics Assembler
1986, 1988, 1994 Assembled UHF and laser scanners for Norand Data Systems
Inc. While there, learned to work multiple assembly stations, from the beginning to the
final testing stage, on several different production lines.
