Established foundation by which the editorial
department produces news stories and multimedia for
the newspaper's Web site, dailyherald.com. Led the
evolution of news cycle from a daily print to 24/7
deadlines; breaking down barriers that prohibited
publication of news before print deadlines;
establishing cross-promotion of newspaper and Web
site; and monitoring and measuring editorial staff
compliance.
Researched and developed plans for integrating
dailyherald.com brand into social networking
applications. Launched and managed Twitter
application that alerts potential readers to
new/updated content, as well as interacts with
Twitter followers for opinion, polls, etc.
Researched and recommended third-party vendor
requests. Negotiated contract for Web site's first
business/stocks program.
Daily duties include maintaining quality and
integrity of Web site, updating site as needed for
breaking news; creating promotional images;
monitoring reader comments and removing
non-compliant comments.
Administrative Editor 1998-2006
Researched, created and managed the Daily Herald
Academic/Leadership Teams, a newspaper/community
program that recognizes high school students who
excel in academics (Academic Team) and community
service (Leadership Team). Coordinated efforts
with more than 90 high schools to promote program
and assure schools submitted nominees; sought out
community and school officials as judges and
coordinated judges' selection of four regional
teams; oversaw production of special sections and
directed awards ceremony.
Facilitator or member of several companywide
committees focusing on improvements to newspaper
content, zoning, and product leveraging. Projects
included developing a cost/revenue metric to
determine profitability for each of the newspaper's
18 community zones; Improving content and marketing
newspaper in three key community zones; developing
promotional materials that leverage Daily Herald
brand in the communities; establishing uniform
keyword system for news stories.
Assisted executive editor with managing department
budget, primarily focusing on negotiating and
controlling syndicate costs and developing
non-personnel cost efficiencies, saving an annual
average of $30,000 for the department.
Other duties: Department liaison for information
technology, advertising and marketing departments.
Assisted editorial board with interviews of
political candidates during election season and
wrote newspaper editorials on as-needed basis.
From 2003-2006, additional duties included:
Managed 14-person copy desk that produced 18-zoned
local news section. Developed process efficiencies
through standardization of deadlines and copy
editor duties; opened communication among five
content editors to improve story and idea sharing;
improved section's design through training and
mentoring; and developed promotional strategies.

page. Took project from concept to reality in six
