Personal Statement:
I like working in the mining industry and I am proud of my work. Now
approaching the end of my career, I would like to mentor young engineers.
I am familiar several mining software packages so I am not obsolete. My
surface mining experience is far greater than my underground experience.
You could hire someone with one year of experience multiplied by thirty or
you could hire someone with thirty years experience.
Professional Experience:
Engineering and Management Services (1993 - present). As an African
expert, I provide project management and development services including:
. Crop compensation issues
. Sustainable development and coordination with NGOs.
. Commissioned and supervised baseline studies (5) that
resulted in successful EIA or EIS submissions. These studies
lead to operating mines (including Bibiani, Gold Fields Ghana
Damang, Golden Star's Wassaw, and Mpasetia).
. Prepared built facilities layouts including infrastructure
including; roads, camps and housing projects and installed
communication systems. Most of this was done with local
labour and materials.
Manager, Engineering and Planning (1991-1993) Teberebie Goldfields,
Ltd., Tarkwa, Ghana My team increased annual gold production from 3
tonnes to nearly 4.5 tonnes with only a $700K capital investment and a
mining cost decrease from $1.40 per tonne to $0.84 per tonne.
Consultant (1988-1991). Feasibility studies, financial modeling,
cost estimating, mine planning and production scheduling, ore body
modeling, and equipment studies.
Pit Operations Supervisor (1986-1988). Tenneco Minerals, Inc., St.
George, UT. I selected the mining contractor and the ore crushing
contractor.
Corporate Chief Engineer (1984-1988). Western States Minerals, Inc.,
Mine Engineer at the following mines: Drum Mine, Delta, UT; Portland Mine,
Kingman, AZ; Northumberland Mine, Round Mountain, NV. Each mine was losing
money but a 'turn around' was achieved without a "write-down". I also
pioneered computerization of ore body modeling and mine design at the
company.
Freelance Engineering Work (1983 & 1984)
. Reclaimed tar sands test pit, UT.
. Built proto type roof testing apparatus for Bureau of
Mines, PA.
