PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
jacobs Engineering group
Jul 2006 - Feb 2010
Process Engineer
BP Whiting Works Project (Glycol Dehydration Unit and Boiler), Whiting IN -
$35 MM Project
. Designed and developed a one of the kind low pressure FG dehydration
system using glycol dehydration process in the refinery.
. Saved $5 MM by eliminating regenerator off gas compressor and by using
patented high pressure regenerator process.
. Involved in conceptual to mechanical completion design including proposal
requests, technical paper preparation, process design basis, studies,
simulation in HYSYS, presentation for client, fuel gas piping integrity &
reconfiguration, material balance, development of PFDs and P&IDs,
equipment design, calculation of hydraulics and pumps, control philosophy,
determination of the applicable overpressure scenarios and provision of
relief devices, design option and philosophy determination, sensitivity
analysis, facilitating P&ID review with different disciplines.
. Coordinated and interfaced with equipment suppliers and prepared
technical evaluations of supplier's proposals.
. Participated in HAZOP workshops to provide inherently safe design for BP
refinery.
. Successfully met client's urgent requirement for air permit by
determining RFG composition for different scenarios and delivered basis
document before schedule.
BP Gasoline Benzene Reduction Project, Whiting, IN - $120 MM Project
. Analyzed the impact of new operating conditions on existing depropanizer,
deethanizer and C4/C5 splitter system and provided recommendations for
Cost Estimating. Generated simulation in HYSYS, performing drum sizing
calculation, checking pump adequacy based on pump curves, rating and
design of heat exchangers and towers using HTRI and KG-TOWER respectively,
and line hydraulic calculations.
. Instrumental in assisting cost savings of $30-40 MM by novel approach of
saturating benzene in existing isomerization unit instead of selecting the
proprietary technology.
. Assisted client in developing the benzene reduction option by setting up
& analyzing 9 different options in HYSYS for the units including naphtha
splitter, ultraformer, aromatics recovery unit and dehexanizer.
. Developed P&IDs and PFDs, generated simulation, heat and material
balance, rated the exchangers using HTRI and prepared equipment design
summary for naphtha splitter system and dehexanizer system.
. Performed Reboiler study to troubleshoot existing naphtha splitter
reboiler problems using HTRI and by interacting with piping and mechanical
engineering disciplines.
. Developed HAZOP and LOPA documentation for reviews and then final reports
using PHAWorks software.
BP OCC Project (Hydrotreater Units and VDU) Whiting, IN - $300 MM Project
. Lead the conversion of Pro II simulation to HYSYS simulation for 4
different hydrotreating units, matched HYSYS with Pro II simulation and
provided HYSYS working models to the client.
. Developed P&IDs, utility summary, piping line list, instrument datasheets
for Distillate Desulfurization unit.
. Rated the high and Low pressure amine towers for six different
hydrotreating units using KG-TOWER, prepared equipment design summary and
co-ordinated with the lead for any tower performance concerns.
. Prepared crude vacuum tower datasheet and metallurgy selection for
preheat train exchangers and lines.
. Developed refinery technical department procedures for the sizing of
relief devices and the management of related documentation.
Petro Canada Oil Sands Project (Hydrocracker Unit & VDU), Alberta, Canada
. Simulated amine system using PROMAX and design the amine absorber using
KG-TOWER.
. Designed lean amine system which includes calculation of pump, hydraulics
and drum sizing, relief valve and heat exchanger design using HTRI.
Developed PFDs & P&IDs, prepared material selection worksheet.
