EXPERIENCE
VAROLII CORPORATION SEATTLE, WA 2005 - PRESENT
Product Engineering: Software Engineer III (December 2006 – Present): Led teams of up to 8 people to make improvements to
our SaaS platform which allows our customers to deliver personalized automated communications via voice, text and email. In
addition to actively contributing to the code base, responsibilities included requirements gathering, documenting user scenarios,
writing feature specifications, project risk management and bug triage.
• Co-led the group's effort in building additional support for a new media channel (text) in the platform. Specific responsibilities
included working with Product Management to identify the requirements, identifying and documenting the various user scenarios and
leading the development team through the design and implementation phase.
• Led a team of 5 people to deliver a flexible and adaptive routing algorithm allowing notifications to be sent to the appropriate
delivery units. This design helped in reducing costs by a factor of 2 and resulted in better utilization of limited resources. This project
also involved working with an off-site team responsible for developing part of the functionality.
• Implemented a new feature set in our core platform which significantly reduced our Customer Management team’s efforts to
setup our systems around holidays and special events. Previously they would have to manually set up each customer account
before such events, verify their actions and then after the event revert back to the original configuration. With this new feature,
they can setup the behavior of the system well in advance and there is no additional work around the holidays related to setup,
verification and roll-back.
Professional Services: Senior Engineer (February 2005 – December 2006): Charged with building custom applications integrating
Customer’s systems with our SaaS delivery platform; Worked on multi person projects lasting 2-6 months.
• Built a lookup service which integrated with a third party service provider, to collect details of an individual’s public information
given some identifying information. This service helped reduce integration time for custom applications by a factor of three. This
system took advantage of open source projects like the Quartz job scheduling system and Apache Axis.
• Led a 3 person team to build a unique application for one of our largest customers, which involved an innovative rule engine based
on historical data. The benefits provided by this feature led to its inclusion into the flagship’s product’s feature-set.
• Implemented applications to integrate customer systems with our notification platform. Some of the more interesting
applications involved one with parsing data from an email based data-feed and another which required real-time interactions
with ~100 retail locations.

Sun’s IPlanet server.
