Quality Control Analyst/Safety Inspector:

Focus on finding defects in specific tasks at the actual work site itself. Process being implemented in the

field and is the task being completed to customer specifications and internal standards. Inspecting the end

result of the work, observation of employee activities related to the work, and task analysis that will help

uncover defective services and defective processes. Provide customer and team members with a system to

Some of the safety measures that were practiced were:

* Safety Duties:

Safety is a top priority on every project, no matter its size or complexity. Our goal on every project is to

ensure that all work is completed safely and in compliance with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety

and Health Requirements Manuel (EM385-1-1 revised September 1996)

* Procedures are handled in accordance with OSHA and EPA guidelines.

* Weekly training sessions with all workers on projects.

* Safety Plan is followed closely on every project

A. Methods to detect correct and prevent unsafe practices.

B. Proper use of equipment.

C. Tool and equipment maintenance schedule.

* Project Mgr. Duties:

* Throughout the course of the project U.S. Corps of Engineers, Contract Managers, and Project

Managers worked together to ensure that:

A. Subcontractors are hired in a timely manner and in-house crews perform work in accordance to

schedule and deadlines.

B. Pre-set construction milestones are determined and constantly evaluated.

C. Work is performed correctly the first time so that the punch list time is decreased or eliminated.

Preparatory Phase:

A Review each paragraph of the applicable specification sections.

B. Review the contract drawing for the deliver order.

C. Verify the appropriate shop drawings and submittals for materials and equipment have been submitted

and approved.

D. Examine the work area to ensure that the required preliminary work has been completed.

E. Examine the required materials, equipment and sample work to ensure that they are on hand and

conform to the approved shop drawings and submitted data.

F. Review the Safety Plan and appropriate Activity Hazard Analysis to ensure that applicable safety

requirements are met and that required Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are submitted.

G. Discuss construction methods.

H. Discuss access to the facility and coordination with any government occupants.

I. Identify all permits required.

J. Concrete testing: Three and Seven day strengths of concrete testing used to replicate a 28 day period.

K. Strength gain depends on the type of mixture, its constituents, the use of standard curing,

proper testing and care of cylinders in transport, etc. It is imperative to accurately test the

fundamental properties of concrete in its fresh, plastic state.

L. Responsible for the Education of employees about the safety hazards of working with

concrete.

M. Responsible for inspections of all aspects of concrete fabrication: Grading of area, Form

building, rebar cage and chair placement, pouring and curing processes, testing, and concrete

form displacement.

Initial Phase:

A. Establish the quality of workmanship required.

B. Resolve Conflicts.

C. Review the Safety Plan and the appropriate Activity Hazard Analysis to ensure that applicable safety

requirements are met.

D. Ensure that testing is performed.

Follow-Up Phase:

A. Ensure that work is in compliance with contract requirements.

B. Maintain the quality of workmanship required.

C. Ensure that testing is being performed.

D. Ensure that rework items are being corrected.

E. Ensure as-builds are updated.

F. Complete documentation.

* Root cause analysis to identify causes of a system failure and correct deficiencies.

* Visual examination for dangerous situations such as emergency exits blocked because they are

being used as storage areas.

* Visual examination for flaws such as cracks, peeling, loose connections. # Training of employees,
