Objective
To obtain a challenging and rewarding position in polymer processing and
materials development.
Summary
( Five-year intensive experience in polymer processing, especially
injection molding and extrusion of PP, PE, PS, PVC, Nylon, PC, PMMA and
nanocomposites.
( Five-year extensive experience in sealant/adhesive formulation to develop
new products and improve existing product lines, and customer technical
support.
( Four-year professional experience in polymerization, materials
development and characterization, polymerization reaction engineering,
process development, optimization, and scale up.
( Highly creative, strong problem-solver, strong communication and
interpersonal skills to work with all levels of personnel, and proven
ability in handling multiple projects.
Experience
Chemist, W. R. Grace, Boston, MA, 2006 - 2009
( Led global water-based beer/beverage sealant development from bench top
formulation to commercialization with FDA compliance. Four products
commercialized with annual sales of $20M+.
( Supervised and planned staff member's research activities, and
communicated with inter-department teams for successful implementation of
various technical projects.
Sr. Engineer, Nanomaterial Innovation Ltd., OH, 2005 - 2006
( Led NSF product and process development of thermoplastics PVC/clay &
carbon NT nanocomposite and patented nanocomposite foams in extrusion. PIs
of NSF funded projects with the budget of half million dollars.
PostDoc, Center for Advanced Polymer and Composite Engineering (CAPCE), OH,
2004 - 2005
( Led product and process development of thermoplastics PS/clay
nanocomposite and nanocomposite foams in extrusion.
( Led the research project of micro-injection molding. Conducted research
on potential mass-production of biomedical devices with microfeatures.
Optimized the molding process to launch products successfully. Visualized
the molding process to solve problems.
Graduate Research Associate, The Ohio State University (OSU), Columbus, OH,
1998 - 2004
( Investigated the surface defects during injection molding and extrusion.
Made a significant contribution to the understanding of the effects of
morphology, crystallinity, rheology, and process parameters on the surface
defects. Successfully launched surface defect free product.
( Successfully developed virgin/post-consumer blended HIPS for injection
molding through solid understanding on structure/processing/property
relationship. Developed a new approach to simulate the molding process.
( Investigated polymer degradation of PVC in injection molding process.
Successfully predicted the degradation by simulation.
( Strong interaction with industry while on academic studies. Worked on
joint projects with Dow, Kodak, PolyOne, and Visteon on various projects.
Research Engineer, Yuzhu Adhesive Co., Ltd., China, 1996 - 1998
( Developed a polyurethane adhesive, scaled up the process, and
commercialized the product for construction applications. Supervised
technicians. Worked on quality control. Interfaced with materials suppliers
and costumers to modify/improve the adhesive
Research Engineer, National Lab of Polymerization Reaction Engineering,
China, 1992 - 1996
( Invented a novel coagulation process for MBS latex by studying the
mechanism of particle formation, morphology control, and coagulation
dynamics. Implemented the coagulation process into product line for higher
quality product at Qilu Petrochemical Corporation, China. Saved 10M
dollars.
( Led the projects of hydrodynamics, mixing, heat transfer in gas-liquid
agitated vessels.
( Worked on fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and scale-up in agitated
vessels with viscous fluid. Designed effective scraped-surface rotators to
ameliorate a butadiene rubber polymerization reactor.
Related Skills
( Six Sigma Green Belt, DOE and statistical data analysis (JMP5.0, EChip7,
Minitab)
