Brief History
The establishment of the firm will provide accounting solutions to businesses triggered the
concept of BSS Accounting Solution. It was planned by Adamson C. Basilio, who was at that time
accounting instructor at the Joseph Sangalang, who is a freelance accountant/ practitioner and a part time
accounting instructor at the same time. Basilio has gained tax practices proficiency from his experiences,
which he combined with the assurance services rendition of Sangalang. Using the set up stage of the
company, Pablo Z. Soliman, Jr., who is a renowned computer programmer and Systems Analyst for
reputable international internet firm, was in the country for a vacation. Soliman, with his computer
expertise, will be a big asset for the company. He was invited to the partnership to handle technological
advances, systems development and implementation for the clients with their businesses. After discussing
with him the ambitious plan, he readily agreed to be admitted as a partner. Atty. Jerry C. Perico, who is a
partner in highly law firm within the city and a part time law instructor as well, was also invited to be the
answer to the legal concerns of the clients. Atty. Perico was the former instructor of Basilio in college and
an uncle of Sangalang. He agreed to be a part of the firm to render legal counseling to the clients as well
as with endeavors of the company.
An office was established in Balibago, near the Bureau if Internal Revenue’s RDO 21A office, to jumpsuit
its operations. It was strategically located in Balibago to make it accessible for clients to reach out to the
office for their concerns, and make the BSS accessible with the BIR and with other government offices as
they are just a ride away.
In the light of providing better service, together with the increase in manpower and equipment, prompted
the transfer of the office to a bigger facility within the same vicinity. To date, BSS Accounting Solution
provides service t almost three hundred clients and includes a vital team supportive of its growth, mission

Description of the Department Assigned:
The audit department is usually charged with creating and implementing procedures, controls and
oversight for all business areas that have input into the financial books and records of a company. It also
usually has responsibility for correcting any deficiencies noted by the independent accountants.
Description of Specific Work Assigned:
To help record, analyze and report a company, partnership, or individual's financial status, trusts
and estates. The client reviews the bookkeeping services and what the accountant firm is telling them
about their financial state to make adjustments as needed. More specifically, we keep accurate business
transactions in ledgers and then record them on financial statements monthly, quarterly and yearly. The
accountant can also interpret the financial statements to the client and show them any problem areas as
well as any areas that are successful. Finally, I function as one of the tax preparers.
• Daily Tasks
Usually either doing audit or tax. At times, interacting with the client/s, asking
something like papers you need clarification on certain items. The rest of the day,
going through their accounting records, confirming balances, filing audit papers
end etc.
• Weekly Tasks
Bookkeeping some companies or individuals’ records has always been my
weekly task.
• Annual Tasks
Review all records that are relevant to the scope of the audit.
The goal of this work is to identify and remedy instances of discrepancies,
mismanagement and/or fraud. In addition to reviewing paper and electronic
records; I may interview members of the staff, questioning them on subjects
relevant to the scope of the investigation.
• Special Assignment
I was assigned to be the audit supervisor on a specific company to audit their
year-ended Financial Statements.
Major Contribution to the Department:
My major contribution to the department was probably my volunteering for over a month, my
accomplishments in bookkeeping, tax filing, auditing, and keeping up the financial records of the clients
throughout the days of my stay, and several works of an audit staff.
Executive summary:
I started training last April 9, 2012 up to June 8, 2012. The first thing that they asked me to do
was to type their entire client’s information for their General Information Sheet (GIS) and for their
Annual Income Tax Return e.g. 1702 (not only that); the office was so busy since it’s the ITR season or
the busiest Month of the year. It was a very good start since I was immediately exposed to those actual
works or what I was dealing to is I am already in practice of my field. Then the following days and
months, I have learned a lot of things or what accountants do in practice especially because it is an
accounting firm so I would definitely do almost all those things. So until I got back to school, I decided to
still continue my volunteering until I graduated from my degree (BSBA Major in Accounting) or for over
a year and that it added a lot of good and satisfying experiences.
Evaluation of Learning Experience:
The training and overall learning environment provided by my employer was so great experience
for me to learn so much. My employer always let me and the other volunteer to do what he actually has to
do through his guidance and coaching for us to do it well and enough just how he does it. For example,
through bookkeeping, in field, visiting the clients on how their company or business doing, doing ITRs
and especially auditing a company. The greatest experience is when I did a consolidated financial
statement for our client that we have audited that he actually had assigned me to be the audit supervisor
for it. It was quite really hard for me while doing it because they were a lot of revisions, mostly the
balance sheet was not balanced and it really made me pressured since it will be submitted on BIR and to
the company. And fortunately, I was able to finish and settle everything with it with my co-auditors.
Although I already had the experience before taking up the practicum, I know what the intention
of this course and that is before graduating from the program; we were able to apply in practice all the
things I have learned in my academic life.
I can say that the Accountancy Program had and continues to prepare me for my future career.
Through this experience, I tended to do and learned more about my future career; done it step by step and
with that I realized how important the education is in life. From what I have learned and still learning, all
these things have been applied in advanced it felt like I am a young lady already working/doing a
professional or a so-experienced professional do. My formal education and work experience interrelate in
a way that as I have said above, I had successfully applied all the things I’ve learned in from my studies
in my apprenticeship. We all need particularly in our field to formalized training that college education
provides so this practicum had successfully let me formalized training for myself.
Recommendations for improvement:
I think the training was conducted well because I was trained well enough. My employer had
guided me whenever he’s asking me to do something, when I ask questions he never refuse to answer and
guide me how to do it when I still don’t know how to. I guess all I can recommend is to entertain more
questions from the volunteer and just keep all things up.
It is the same thing with the Accountancy Practicum Program in general. The good thing is the
program has never fail to help the needy like I love the community outreach that is required for us. Maybe
all I can recommend also is to be more aware about what the trainees doing with their practicum. But all
in all the practicum is very knowledgeable.
Conclusion:
As a person who has dealt with this forever, I can honestly therefore conclude that formal
education is necessary to get you’re in the door, but there is no substitute for hands-on experience. Most
of the techniques and procedures I have used could not have been learned anywhere else except on the
job. It therefore, depends on the employer’s needs. If they're willing to train a recent grad, then formal
education would be an integral part of the hiring process. If, on the other hand, the employer needs a
person to start contributing right away, experience in that business is the most important aspect, with
education being secondary. So my overall experience is a very important matter with regards with my
degree. It really helped me learned and trained a lot.
