PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Rolling A WWTP Sludge Pond Modifications, Dayton, Nevada. I was the
primary designer for this project, which included raising the existing
sludge pond at the Rolling A wastewater treatment plant six (6) feet and
modifying aeration equipment. This project required state and local
permitting, which included a building permit and dam permit. I also
prepared a Dam Breach Analysis and Project Manual for the project.
Autumn Village Apartments, Reno, Nevada. I provided civil design and plan
preparation to redevelop the existing site from a single family residence
with a paved parking lot to apartments for low income housing. The
improvements include storm drain, sanitary sewer, water utility
realignments, grading, and parking lot improvements. This project was
initially considering LEED accreditation but due to the additional costs
the owners decided against it. I was still able to incorporate designs
elements that promote green building. Design elements were covered
parking, concrete paving, and landscape storm water drainage. This project
is currently under construction.
Victorian Square Plaza Phase 2A, Sparks, Nevada. I was part of the team
that prepared plans and specifications for public infrastructure
improvements to this pedestrian plaza. The project utility work included
sanitary sewer relocation and upgrades, storm drain system upgrades, water
and gas services. The streetscape included colored and textured concrete,
and brick paving. This project was primarily two new one way streets with
associated utility relocations.
Truckee Meadows Wastewater Treatment Facility (TMWRF) Secondary Access
Feasibility Study, Sparks. Nevada. The existing TMWRF site is surrounded
by a floodplain. I investigated nine (9) different alternatives to provide
permanent, flood proof access to the facility. One alternative was to use
DUKW vehicles to provide access to and from the facility during a flood
event prior to construction of permanent access.
Red Rock Road, Reno, Nevada. I prepared the plans, permits, paperwork for
the annexation into the City of Reno, and construction documents for the 3
commercial buildings and a gas station located on a three (3) parcels
totaling 4.25 acres in Reno, Nevada. This project included on site
stormwater treatment and detention with unique design parameters. This
project required detention of the 5 yr, 10 yr, and 100 yr - 24 hour
duration storms and the 5 yr and 100 yr - 10 day duration storms. This
project also required annexation into the City of Reno and a Special Use
Permit. The project also was reviewed and approved by FHWA and NDOT.
Since this project was an annexation into the City of Reno it required
major infrastructure improvements which included widening, grading, and
replacing approximately 920 LF of Silver Lake Road; an addition of 2200 LF
of water main; an addition of 2620 LF of sewer main; and left turn
improvements within NDOT and FHWA Right-of-way.
Wildcreek Townhomes, Sparks, Nevada. I was part of the team that provided
the design for the residential townhome project which included 142 townhome
dwelling units on an 8 acre parcel in Sparks. Design tasks included water,
sanitary sewer and storm drain design; complex earthwork included over
excavation of expansive clays; rockery retaining walls; under grounding of
existing overhead utilities and street improvements within NDOT right of
way.
Victorian Square Plaza Phase 1, Sparks, Nevada. I was part of the team
that prepared plans and specifications for public infrastructure
improvements to this pedestrian plaza. The project utility work included
sanitary sewer relocation and upgrades, storm drain system upgrades, water
and gas services. The streetscape included colored and textured concrete,
and brick paving.
1538 C Street, Sparks, Nevada. I was part of the team that provided the
civil design, project management and plan preparation for the demolition
and removal of an existing mortuary building and constructing a 15 unit
live/work development on a 0.34 acre parcel with associated parking lot and
landscaping. The improvements include storm drain, sanitary sewer, water
utility services, and parking lot improvements.
Sierra Vista Elementary, Reno, Nevada. I designed an onsite stormwater
infrastructure that utilized a low cost underground detention system to
mitigate the problem of Sierra Vista Elementary's runoff flooding the
adjacent downstream apartment complex. The flooding caused problems for
the tenants in the parking lot and impeded the emergency access lane. The
runoff is metered through an orifice plate to flow from the underground
detention to the Orr Ditch at less than historic conditions. I served as
the project lead to design the project to satisfy the needs of Washoe
County School District, Wolf Run Properties, Orr Ditch Company, and the
City of Reno.
Diedrichsen Elementary, Sparks Nevada. I designed a valley gutter along
the existing curb and a greater slope within the parking lot at the
existing main parking lot at Diedrichsen Elementary School which had
problems with runoff to the existing storm drain collection system. There
was saturation of the ground soil due to storm runoff and irrigation of the
landscape areas. To alleviate the saturation of the soil due to
irrigation, perforated pipe was installed along the perimeter of the
landscape areas and were tied into the existing catch basin. Valley
gutters were also provided in the playground and drainage swales along the
building to channelize flows away from the building and into the existing
storm drain infrastructure.
Walton's Funeral Home, Gardnerville, Nevada. I provided civil design,
project management and plan preparation for the 4,479 SF Walton's Funeral
Home in Gardnerville, Nevada. The improvements included storm drain,
sanitary sewer, water services, and street improvements to State Route 756
(Centerville Lane). The project is located in an AO flood zone with shallow
flooding of 1 foot. I prepared a Floodplain Analysis of this project and
submitting a CLOMAR-F to FEMA.
Dartmouth Drive Traffic Calming, Reno, Nevada. I provided civil design,
plan preparation, and construction administration for repaving Dartmouth
Drive and installing traffic calming features. The project involved
approximately 58,000 SF of asphalt replacement and 19 traffic calming
features including roundabouts, speed bumps, landscape islands, and cobble
stone street sections. The narrow street section presented a unique
challenge to emergency access vehicles; however, through collaboration with
city staff I quickly arrived at an acceptable solution. The acceptable
solution was to coordinate the improvements with the fire department
station that would provide emergency services to the residences adjacent to
Dartmouth Drive so they were aware of the street improvements.
1000 Marietta Way, Sparks, Nevada. I provided the civil design to utilize
an undeveloped area on the parcel for storage. This undeveloped area was
unpaved and shared a property line with the Railroad. Stormwater from this
site predominately used for automobile services was also draining into an
existing storm drain without pretreatment of sediment and petrochemicals.
The site was designed to provide for a concrete masonry unit wall
maximizing the projects space, minimizing cost, while not encroaching on
the Railroad Right-of-way. The site was graded so stormwater from
approximately 75% of the 2.82 acre site would drain through a sand/ oil
interceptor to be treated before discharging into the existing storm drain
infrastructure.
Monroe Residence, Washoe County, Nevada. I provided civil design, plan
preparation, and construction document preparation for this custom home
located in Washoe County, Nevada. This project required installing 183 LF
of 2 - 36" reinforced concrete pipes to perpetuate stormwater under the
driveway of this home. These pipes also had to cross the Big Ditch
Irrigation ditch. Fill was brought in to have these pipes cross over the
top of a newly installed 42" reinforced concrete pipe carrying the
irrigation waters within the Big Ditch.
Hart Residence, Washoe County, Nevada. I provided civil design, plan
preparation, and construction document preparation for this custom home
located in Washoe County, Nevada. This project required no development
within the White's Creek sensitive stream buffer zone and a variety of
geometrical design variations regarding walls, driveways, and vegetated
drainage swales. The site was also designed to provide a balance in the
earthwork to minimize the amount of imported structural fill.
City of Sparks Maintenance Yard, Sparks, Nevada. I provided civil design,
plan preparation, and construction document preparation for the pavement
replacement and storm drain improvements for the City of Sparks Maintenance
Yard. I provided a jointing plan for the 40 ft wide - 9" PCC on 3" ABC
pavement section used around the building to replace existing deteriorated
asphalt pavement. I also designed and graded the site to provide upgrades
to the existing storm drain collection system.
