Processed moderate to complex HR transactions according to operating
procedures in a timely and accurate manner to achieve a 24 hours
turnaround service level. Effectively utilizes HRIS mainframe and Windows
based tools to input and retrieve data, and process HR transactions via
Peoplesoft. Interprets and applies HR policies, collective bargaining
agreements and laws when responding to customer service requests. Uses
good knowledge and experience in Human Resources and Payroll and responds
enthusiastically to requests referred by HR Representatives and/or other
HR Service Center employees for Kaiser HR Processing.
Human Resources Info/Management Supervisor/Payroll Supervisor, Ross Stores
(6/2000 to 5/2005). Reports to Director; and has 16 direct reports to
handle bi-weekly payrolls for 25,000 employees. Because of estimated 300%
turnover company-wide, has to constantly deal with new hires and training
and upgrading staff to handle same. Set up weekly training sessions to
keep staff motivated and current on all changes. Investigates and solves
broad array of problems daily - involving more than 700 stores throughout
the US and 2 in Guam. Problems include, new hire paperwork not received
on time or properly completed, adjusting prior period errors, and
preparing final checks 'on-the-fly' for terminations.
Payroll Manager reporting directly to the CFO/VP and working closely with
VP/Human Resources/ Facilities Manager at Granny Goose Foods (8/98 to
5/2000): Full range of Multi-state payrolls covering union plants,
merchandisers/truckers and so forth. Filed all required tax forms and
initiated money transfers for taxes and payrolls. Prepared union reports
for medical insurance and union dues and mailed billings, etc. to
Teamsters Union. Early on, received training on Infinium Software used in
the Company's internal payroll system. Granny Goose went out of Business
in May 2000.
Took 6 months off to be with ailing mother (2/98 to 8/98). Brought her
to health and dignity and made all arrangements with hospice care close to
my home. Monitored her condition, treatment and improvement every 2-3
days and felt comfortable going to work for Granny Goose Foods.
Finance Manager/Payroll at DHL Airways (1/87 to 2/98) 11+ years: Company
had 10,000 employees and used in-house HRIS interface in conjunction with
ADP Payroll Services. Responsibilities included bi-weekly Executive,
Corporate and Airline Pilots' Payrolls. Hired and trained payroll staff
and maintained compliance with policies and procedures; developed and
updated same and trained staff as needed. Courteous - and much sought
after - 'resident expert' on all payrolls and related matters.
While managing/supervising payroll duties, acted as systems liaison with
ADP Reps, and performed troubleshooting - which included issues requiring
help from the legal department. During the first 5 years, also managed
the company-wide Payroll Tax function and developed procedures for timely
filings which included all FICA, State, SUI, FUTA, and City payroll taxes
- at the Federal, State and Local levels - for all 50 States and the U.S.
protectorates of Puerto Rico, Saipan and Guam.
Also worked hands-on developing and implementing 3 different payroll
conversions and was involved in all aspects of 4th conversion process -
which consolidated all DHL payrolls to Corporate Headquarters in Redwood
City. During the final consolidation, interviewed 40 applicants - for
technical competence and culture fit; and was very influential in final
selection of 20 clerks and 2 payroll managers/supervisors. As direct
result, there was smooth transition on the conversion, and most payroll
people stayed with the company for several years after I left - very
Further, whenever any of the supervisors/managers had problems with their
people, I was happy to oblige by providing one of my trained clerks and
taking on the task of re-training the new people to perform their jobs in
my department. Many were happy working with me, and I had very little
turnover as a result. Also, as new positions became available in my
department, there were many applicants who came from other departments
because they were anxious to work for me.
During the last few years at DHL, worked on - and set up - the Pilots
Payroll System to comply with all the items as outlined in the newest
Union Contract with the Pilots. This included setting-up 6 rates per
pilot in about 20 different classifications. Also established, and
maintained, procedures for United Way. Further, was the main contact
person for the Company's U.S. Federal Credit Union.
Accountants One (6/85 - 1/87): Temporary assignments in payroll and
payroll taxes with Sun MicroSystems - followed by DHL Airways - my
subsequent employer of 11+ years.

Supervision; behavioral and harassment training; and many other seminars
on payroll related issues.
