Ladies and Gentlemen of the Search Committee,
I was excited to read about your recent posting for an open position within
your organization. I believe my unique combination of qualifications could
be an ideal match for this position.
I have worked as a committee clerk at the Washington State House of
Representatives. As a clerk in a high-pressure work place, I have developed
important organizational and multi-tasking skills. My duties required the
capacity to communicate with members of the general public as well as,
members of both parties within the House of Representatives. Also, I was
entrusted with the task of troubleshooting issues ranging from problems
with the introduction of last minute amendments, to a high level of
confidentiality.
While enrolled in Post-Baccalaureate classes at Washington State University
I was an advocate on issues of diversity, multi-cultural relations, and
retention. As a member of Movemiento Estudiantil Chicano y Chicana de
Aztlan, I helped to create a Chicano newspaper allowing students in the
Multi-Cultural community, to have their voices heard. As a member of
Chilastal, I have rallied for Chicano groups to have vocal representation
for the Chicano community and was instrumental in getting the first Chicano
elected to the WSU Student Senate. Finally as a member of the CASHE
conference I have helped to directly increase diversity on the WSU campus,
as well as by giving workshops in the form of youth outreach. I can proudly
say that more Chicano students are interested in attending Washington State
University, than before my tenure there began.
Since this time, I have become the Legislative and Political Specialist for
The Washington Public Employees Association, which has given me extensive
knowledge of Washington State's political landscape, community organizing
and outreach. These abilities combined with my technological background
have given me a strong skill set needed in today's Hi-Tech Politic.
I am convinced that a challenging environment as such as yours will provide
an excellent opportunity for me to make the most of my education,
communication skills as well as my desire to learn. I look forward to
discussing, with you, how my abilities may best serve your needs.
Best regards,
Sean Michael Patrick Gallegos
