Summary:
My life experiences have taught me to be competitive, innovative, ambitious, and
a hard working productive member of society. Besides gaining a higher education at the
University of Cincinnati, I’ve learned who I really am. I am aware of my strengths and
weaknesses. I know what separates me and makes me unique from the rest of the pack.
My ambition, leadership skills, and willingness to step up and take control are what make
me unique. I feel I can be successful no matter the task. Experiences through boy scouts
have taught me things like always being prepared by expecting the unexpected. Other
experiences like my volunteer work keep me in tune with society and bring out my love
and caring for the innocent and helpless. My experiences doing research with doctor’s
shows me how rewarding it is to be on the cutting edge of new things and the
opportunities that exist. I am a good Christian man getting ready to start the next chapter
of my life and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve waited my whole life to showcase my
skills. I challenge myself to be the best I can be and I try to rub off on others. Not only
do I want to be the best I can be, I want the company I work for and its employees to be
the best they can be. Throughout my life I’ve learned to be a great communicator and to
build relationships with people. I work hard and I’m innovative when it comes to
completing tasks. I enjoy new challenges and my ability to work through them. I am
always looking for ways to learn new things and gain new experiences. One of my major
life goals is to become a successful member of society and do my part in making the
world a better place. I know with confidence, whatever I come across in life, I’ll be able
to handle it and learn from it.
Experience:
Residential Property Manager
July 2010-Present
Cincinnati, Ohio
Contact Information: Landlord Lou Crawford, 513-***-****
During the summer of 2010, like most college students, my rental agreement was
up and my roommates were moving on, so I had to find a new house to live in. Due to
my initiative, I recognized my landlord had a need in all aspects of renting. She was
older, sometimes unable or other times unwilling to take care of her rental properties.
Not only could she not use the internet to advertise her rental property, she wasn't willing
to make necessary repairs to them. As my rental agreement was getting ready to end I
had a meeting with her and discussed my ideas for helping her. I came up with a plan and
presented it to her. I ended up hiring people to assist me in fixing up her rental property
and I also advertised on the internet and found new tenants for her. I showed the tenants
the property and got them to sign a lease agreement. I was paid appropriately for my
duties and she spread my name to other landlords. Since then I’ve been contacted about
managing other rental properties for landlords. This shows my leadership skills and
ability to make things happen. This experience further developed my analytical thinking
skills and showed me some of the in and outs of the business world. I had to find out
what was wrong with the property then hire and manage the appropriate people. Next, I
had to advertise the property and set up showings with prospective tenants. After finding
good tenants, I had to go over the contract with them, get them to sign, and collect
money. Besides my analytical thinking skills, this experience shows my great
entrepreneurship abilities and aspirations.
Volunteer-Habitat for Humanity
June 2009-Present
Cincinnati, Ohio
For the past several years I have volunteered my time and efforts with the Habitat
for Humanity not only locally in Cincinnati but also in New Orleans after hurricane
Katrina hit. During my experiences of building new houses, planting new gardens,
cleaning up Cincinnati and keeping it beautiful, I’ve also been able to build new
relationships and see the world in a different light. Through volunteering with Habitat,
I’ve been able to help people emotionally and spiritually by just talking with them and
working with them to get through their problems. I’ve had the honor to be a part of great
things, like building new houses for people in New Orleans who lost everything or re-
modeling old houses for people who can’t afford decent housing. My volunteer work
continues to open my eyes and keep me grounded. It’s a big part of my life and
something I greatly appreciate.
Twin Lakes Retirement Community-Lead Server/Cook
August 2004-Present
Montgomery, Ohio
Contact Information: Jim D’Wolf, Executive of Dining Operations, 513-***-****
I began this job as a server in the dining room. I quickly was moved up to lead
server. At this position, I not only serve the residents but I'm also in charge of the rest of
the servers. I am considered a wellness specialist. Besides serving the residents food, I
make sure their overall experience at Twin Lakes is enjoyable. I help to create an
encouraging and loving environment by building strong relationships with the residents.
I've been here for six years and I know just about every resident, many of which I've
come to know well and have strong friendships with. During my time at Twin Lakes I've
been promoted to a cook and I've been asked to take on more responsibilities at higher
positions. However, obtaining my bachelors degree was a higher priority and I had to
turn down many of the opportunities. My experience at Twin Lakes has taught me to be a
great communicator, stay well organized, and build productive relationships with people.
Volunteer-Tri-Health
July 2007-September 2009
Cincinnati, Ohio
Besides volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, I’ve also done volunteer work
with Bethesda North Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. I volunteered in the
emergency room department and my primary focuses were to keep things stocked and
help make patients stay at the hospital as pleasing as possible. I did this by creating
friendly relationships with them and lending them a helping hand. I enjoy volunteering
because it gives me great opportunities to be productive in my community and make
myself a better person while helping others. It keeps me grounded and allows me to
build new relationships and help those who are in need.
Best Buy-Sales Associate
November 2003-February 2004
Cincinnati, Ohio
At Best Buy I worked in the Digital Camera department. My job was to educate
customers and sell digital cameras to them. Because I was successful at selling cameras,
my managers had me train new employees. Unfortunately, I had to leave this job because
my work schedule was in conflict with my high school sports schedule. This job taught
me how to deal with customers of all different types and gave me insight to the basic
strategies of selling products to consumers.
Education:
University of Cincinnati-Cincinnati Ohio
Bachelors of Science, Biology, GPA~ 3.2
September 2006-December 2010
Although my degree and field of study are in Biology, I've also completed college
level courses in business and health. I’ve also focused my biology degree on the human
body and how it works. I enjoy both the biology field and business field. I hope to use
my knowledge and interests in these two fields in a collaborative effort at my job.
Related Coursework:
While at the University of Cincinnati, leaving the opportunity open for medical
school, I focused my classes on pre-medicine and the human body. Because of this, I’m
very knowledgeable and comfortable with the human body and how it works. I have
also taken health and business classes because of my interests in these fields. Throughout
my years in middle school, high school, and college I’ve taken six years of Spanish. I
don’t consider myself fluent in Spanish but I am capable of basic communication in
Spanish.
