. The use of Vitmain D (1,25(OH)2D3) to
treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in
patients with kidney failure is usually
accompanied by hypercalcemia and
hyperphosphatemia. Thus an analog of
vitamin D, Hectorol, is currently being
used to overcome this problem
. The goal of the project was to analyze
the effects of Hectorol and 1,25(OH)2D3 on
the regulation of target genes by
examining the expression of calcium
binding proteins as well as mRNA levels by
Western Blot and RTPCR
. The active intestinal calcium and
phosphate absorption were also examined
using the everted gut sac assay in mice
models
