Special Projects Department Superintendent / Maintenance Superintendent ; 06/2006 to Present

NAVIGARE INTERNATIONAL INC.; Covington, LA

Overview & Responsibilities:

Currently oversee a wide range of multi-million dollar vessel upgrade projects including full replacement of main

propellers, tunnel thrusters, electronic control systems, hydraulic control systems, dynamic positioning systems

(DP), power management systems (PMS), deck machinery, and cranes. Responsible for planning, purchasing,

engineering support, submittal to classification societies, installation, and field testing of systems and equipment.

Serve as Vessel Superintendent during vessel dockings for major maintenance / Class requirements at U.S.

shipyard facilities for large semi-submersible, special purpose dive support vessels, as well as anchor handling

oil recovery support vessels. Create RFQs, approve requisitions, oversee budget management, assign purchase

orders to vendors, ensure vendor accountability for services and material, coordinate international delivery of

material to vessels, and generate budgetary and actual expense reports for project related activity. Additionally

resolve complex issues and create solutions regarding warranty claims with service and materials suppliers.

Design and create reporting software of budget and schedule to owners, managers, stakeholders, and sponsors

using MS Project and STAR Information Systems products, research and implement web based server reporting

from SharePoint server software, and attended Star Information Systems User Conferences in Madrid Spain 2009

and Malta 2010.

Conduct customer acceptance tests and factory acceptance verification tests for all new equipment delivered for

upgrading projects, including Rolls-Royce Propulsion systems, Liebherr Pedestal Cranes, Electronic Control

Systems, and more. Coordinated with Project Host Developer to develop a method and structure to allow project

managers and owners to access real time project status and costs, including the ability to make Internet updates.

As Maintenance Superintendent / Marine Propulsion Department Manager / Predictive – Preventative

Maintenance Program Manager, assigned to oversee all propulsion upgrades, repairs, overhaul, and propulsion

purchasing program issues. Identified thrusters to be exchanged using the predictive – preventative maintenance

program as a source of information. Served as Purchase Originator for propulsion purchasing activity related to

the overhaul of Kamewa Ro-Thruster units, Tunnel Thrusters, Retractable Azimuth Thruster units and Main

Propeller systems. Key team member involved with the Cotemar Propulsion Upgrade Repair program from

2006-2010, surpassing US $8 million dollars.

Assigned to design and implement a new Navigare / Cotemar Preventative - Predictive Maintenance Program on 9

semi-submersible dynamic positioning accommodations vessels, 5 special purpose vessels, and 5 crew boats.

Conducted training for vessel engineers, generated monthly reports, and successfully lowered off-hire time and

raised equipment reliability.

Projects & Accomplishments:

Successfully manage large projects offshore during vessel operations with little or no impact to vessel operations,

including supervising installation of 154 square meters of additional deck structure to increase deck load support

for the addition of a large temporary deck crane. Coordinated purchase activity for crane and steel, disassembled

crane ashore, loaded crane on supply vessel, removed crane from supply vessel offshore Mexico during

continued vessel operations, erected Manitowoc 2250 350-ton crawler crane on deck of semi-submersible, and

commissioned / tested crane operation for classification surveyor and client representative.

Generated considerable cost savings and time off charter savings by coordinating with propulsion equipment

manufacturer, dive company. and the classification society to undertake a unique approach and design for

offshore underwater exchange of Rolls-Royce tunnel thrusters for offshore vessel, allowing replacement of

thrusters without dry-dock process.

Traveled to Goteborg & Kristinehamn, Sweden for hydraulic control system factory / customer acceptance tests,

and traveled to Long Beach, CA for coordination with Rolls-Royce Engineering Department and Sub-Sea

Alliance to discuss underwater tunnel thruster offshore exchange procedures.

As Project Manager for ESV Iolair 100-Ton Pedestal Crane Replacement, created specs for replacement crane,

implemented vessel contract requirements, consulted with several crane suppliers to request quotes and delivery

times, negotiated costs and delivery, advised management on crane and vendor of choice, and created the

purchase order. Additionally traveled to the crane manufactures factory to conduct pre-delivery customer

acceptance testing, coordinated shipping and importation into Mexico from England, traveled to England to

ensure proper crane loading, and planned installation activity offshore concurrent with vessel operation.

As Project Manager PSS Jupiter for Removal of Main Propeller Shaft for Class Survey at sea, planned

underwater removal of main propeller shaft, and coordinated with dive support team, stern tube seal vendor

technicians, and main propeller OEM manufacturer. Removed propeller shaft, replaced forward and aft seals,

performed propeller hub maintenance, re-installed propeller shaft, and tested propeller, all completed within 3

days without dry-dock, resulting in significant savings to the vessel owner.

As Project Manager DSV Boa Canopus Dynamic Positioning Vessel Dry-Docking, managed Replacement of

Stern Thruster Propulsion Unit within budget and on time with a great performance upgrade to the vessel.

Created specs for the new tunnel thruster, negotiated purchase of equipment, and ensured that Lloyds Register

Classification Society approved installation and design review with Class and Rolls-Royce. Performed sea trials,

DP trials, and FMEA trials.

As Project Manager during shipyard period, replaced 500 meters of dive bell umbilical cable and lifting wire

rope, coordinated dive performance review with Lloyd’s Register Surveyor, and ensured that saturation dive

equipment pressurization equipment was safe for operation.

Assigned to oversee commissioning of new propulsion mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic equipment on new

vessels, as well as upgrades to existing vessels. Managed installation and performance of Rolls-Royce Propulsion

equipment, Tunnel Thrusters, Retractable Azimuth thrusters, and Water Jets. Coordinated with Dynamic

Positioning and Power Management System Engineers to integrate electronic control systems.

Conducted design review meetings with Classification Society Surveyors to ensure that systems met with Class

rules, coordinated with vessel managers during major maintenance periods to accomplish repairs and overhauls,

and handled emergency maintenance until available docking period.

Selected to receive advanced training at Rolls Royce’s factory in Kristinehamn, Sweden for all Kamewa

Overview & Responsibilities:

Selected as Port of New Orleans representative between terminal operators and all outside agencies with

responsibility for coordinating between manufacturers, contractors, and the Port of New Orleans regarding warranty

repair items. Maintained digital drive systems and programmable logic controllers, managed upgrade projects from

older analog electronic drive systems to convert to a digital programmable logic controller on several older

container cranes at the France Road terminal. Instituted a programmed maintenance process for all of the Bromma

spreader bars used for lifting of the various sizes of containers.

Projects & Accomplishments:

Developed a new inspection and monitoring system to reduce downtime and ensure safety, educated mechanical

staff on recognizing deficient electrical components during on-hire downtime, and successfully reduced

downtime and increased overall reliability to over 99.5% at the Nashville Avenue location. Directly responsible

for the supervision of 8 qualified container crane technicians. Authored and administered departmental budget to

the Port Manager and State of Louisiana.
